Tis the season for upsets on the field.

Wow, college football has just had an upheaval in its Top 25 standings. Yesterday, 6 top 25 teams lost to unranked teams, two Top 5 teams needed a Field Goal in the final 10 seconds to not be upset (Michigan would have lost if not for a missed pass interference call against them) and two other Top 25 teams lost to other Top 25 teams.

It seems to happen right around this time for two or three weeks every year.

@TL1961 I didn’t get to watch Illinois or any college football for that matter yesterday since I’m currently getting ripped off in Disney World, seems the Big 10 was busy protecting their best teams?

Good post. NIL and transfer portal affecting things IMO. Tons of parity in the SEC this year as well. Just sucks they are going to 12 team playoff. 4 was fine or maybe 6 put they are making the regular season not count anymore.

Are the 12 team playoffs going to start this year?

As for the Illini Michigan game, I don't think it was as much protecting their best teams as having really bad officials.

There was a play close to the end where the Illini receiver goes up for the ball and the Michigan defender pulls one of his hands back, making it either a one-handed reception or an incompletion. That pass interference would have given the Illini a first down closer to field goal range, but more importantly, it would have given the Illini the time to eat up more time.

Less time would have taken away the final field goal, forcing Michigan to go for it on a fourth down to take to lead on the previous set of downs. Maybe they get it. Maybe they don't. The Illini did let Michigan drive for three straight field goals which was the difference.

Next season playoffs. More games = more money. Sucks they are screwing over a great product. The gap between the #1 and #12 team in CFB is so much greater than the nfl

Hate to say it but I definitely think that happens and other conferences do it too.
Meh, hear this line of reasoning every year. Yet, if that’s how conferences operated, don’t you think the SEC wanted Tennessee to beat S Carolina yesterday?? Instead, there was a lot of penalties called against Tennessee that kept S Carolina drives going. Not that I’m here to complain about the calls, just pointing out the whole conferences protecting the top teams narrative to be false.

1 team in the top 9 (teams with real/slim chance to win it all) actually lost

Burp

I look forward to the new conspiracy theories evolving once we get to the 12 team playoff. I'm sure they'll definitely be super rational and well thought out.

I had the TN-SC game marked on my calendar as the one that was going to **** up our entire season. I told my son a month ago. I was right. What a waste of a season....

Just remember, your school got the good UCF coach while the other one (Nebraska) got the shitty, fraudulent one. I will happily change places as a Nebraska alum ?

I also had a bad feeling about the game.

That said, how many games did you think Tennessee was going to win heading into the season? 9 at most?

Reality is, Tennessee beat Florida, Alabama, and LSU while doing it under scholarship restrictions and in year 2 of Heupels tenure…after half the team left to start his tenure. It’s fucking remarkable they are where they are currently. To act now like it was a waste of a season is short sighted as ****

Don't you actually need.....upsets....for upset season to happen?

One in the top 10
So, are you telling me that teams that were not in the top 10 but in the top 25 but lost to unranked teams are not upsets?

Just because a team is not a national championship caliber team does not mean that they cannot get upset if they lose to a team that is supposedly much worse than they are.

8 ranked teams lost

2 lost to other ranked teams
3 were either dogs or pick

So there were 3 upsets.......teams lower in the rankings.....basically like every week

So you are saying that:
  1. a 5th ranked team losing to an unranked team by 25 happens every week?
  2. a 13th ranked team with one loss playing at home loses to an unranked team with two more losses than wins happens every week?
  3. a 14th ranked team with an 8-2 record loses to an unranked team playing .500 ball by 42-27, and that is because that unranked team took the foot of the gas in the 4th quarter and let the ranked team score the final 21 points (42-6 before the 4th quarter) happens every week?
  4. A 20th ranked team with an 8-2 record loses to an unranked armed forces team with a 3-7 record happens every week?
  5. a 22nd ranked 7-3 team loses to an unranked .500 team every week?
  6. I will give you a 24th ranked 7-3 ACC team losing to a 6-4 ACC home team.
It is not that they lost. It is how they lost to those unranked teams.

If not, show me when those first 5 instances happened all in the week before or the one before that. It shouldn't be hard. You say it happens every single week.

3) pick em...not an upset
5) 8 point underdogs....not an upset
6) 4 point underdogs...not an upset

As stated; there were 3 upsets

Tenn-ucf-unc

And you'd have to go back all the way to............last week...... to find not three but FOUR ranked teams that were heavily favored who lost

Ucla-ill-ncst-kentucky

Anything else?

Get your head out of the gambling crap.

A pick em who loses by around 15 which could have been over 40 points if the winning team had not them off the hook is not just a loss.

Ok, show me the three teams who were upset each week for the last three weeks, not including last week since it happens all the time.
