Cubs get the 3rd overall pick in the 2015 draft as the fans are saying "wait till next year" in mid May, and Baez gets his June call-up to instill some fresh air into the stench smell (besides the bathrooms) at Wrigley.

Washington has a bounce back year and wins the NL East.

The Cardinals win the NL Central over the Reds as Hamilton swipes 67 bags the Pirates take a step back.

Dodgers landslide the NL West.

Tampa surprises and wins the AL East and Price goes to free agency next year and signs with the Cubs as their only acquisition as Shark does not get extended or traded this year.

Pujols has a bounce back year as the Angels win the West over Oakland.

Cleveland wins the AL Central as Detroit finds out how much Peralta's PED's and Fielder will be missed.

The Rooftop owners and Cubs come to terms, and Rick Renteria shows promise as a manager heading forward with his ability to communicate with players as a coach to play for as well as being a disciplinarian.

Or, if we cut expenses again, Baez may end up having the clear the stench in the bathroom too as a chore.

Can they cut expenses again? They have roughly 31 million committed for next year with E-Jax taking over 1/3rd of that.

The Cubs have no excuses next year for not putting some quality ballplayers on the field that move this team forward even if they cost some money as they should pretty well know where some of these kids are going to be playing.

They had no excuse this offseason or the previous two off seasons, yet they have not put some quality ballplayers on the field to move the team forward.

People said the previous offseasons that if the payroll dropped under $100M then they would start to agree that ownership is more interested in profit than winning. Yet now with the payroll sitting in the low 80's and near the bottom ten in all of baseball, people still excuse and apologize for it.

There is a thread currently bumped that was started early last year by fanboys who made predictions about all the additions to the core that were going to be made last year and this offseason. None of it happened and yet they are nowhere to be seen on the thread admitting that the reports and predictions of great growth to the major league team didn't happen.

Regardless they are going to be in trouble when they have to sign Trout to a 300 mil deal and have 2 albatross contracts around their necks preventing them.

Not even close.

Their payroll right now is about $150M and I would think they could probably easily handle a payroll in the $170M range which would be more than enough to handle Trout through his arbitration years even on a long term deal. His first year of FA is the last year of Hamilton's contract and by then Weaver and Wilson will be off the books as well.

Anaheim has zero 'albatross contracts'. They have PLENTY of money to sign Trout and their owner Moreno is not afraid to spend even to the point where it looks like he is losing money.

Dude they traded out Trumbo to add cheap pitching because they could not afford to sign premium. Dude that move was 100% a point towards how tight things are over there.

I think you need to reel it in some about every team having a NYY payroll ability. 300 mil is a big deal. That is 30 mil per and that pushes a 150 mi into a 180 mil team .

Dude, they traded out Trumbo for young pitching because they really didn't have a place to play him outside of DH and as a DH his production is easily replaceable. They were able to sign a player who last year was 50 points better in OPS for under $3M

First off $180M payroll is no where near having a NYY payroll ability.

Secondly I think you need to reel it in some about Trout getting a $300M deal. That would be $25M more than any baseball deal in history and $60M more than any deal for a player not named A-Rod.

Whether you wish to accept reality or not, baseball revenues are likely to only increase over time so teams will therefore also be able to increase their payroll levels.

I got the 300 mil from MLB network and MLBtrade rumors. They are the ones sounding off at 300 mil. He is worth it also.

Dude Trumbo went to a NL team...ie no DH and is listed as the starting LF.

So when has Kole Calhoun become this quality depth replacement? Or signing an 40+ YO Raul Ibanez to fill in at DH?

Come on now man

Yeah ok. I believe they were also talking about Kershaw and Pujols getting $300M also.

When he signs for $300M feel free to point out I was wrong and then I can point out how I was correct that the Angels could afford him.

Um, I clearly stated he was traded for young pitching cause the Angels had no room to play him other than DH and the Angels are in the AL last time I checked.

Come on now man.

Yeah the 40+ year old Raul Ibanez who last year had an OPS of 50 points higher than the great Mark Trumbo whose OPS was almost the same as Rizzo's.

Trumbo is easily replaceable.

You are being a borderline Hypocrite. Sori put up around the same production and you have defended him. Trumbo put up .234/ .294/.453 with 34 HR's and 100 RBI's last year for less than a mil.

Call it for what is is. They had to make a choice on who they could retain long term and they chose Trout. The right choice but the situation was caused by over paying on Pujos and Hamiliton.

I'm not even getting into how Jerett weaver has taken less to help fund a quality team. Dude is a top 10 year in an out has not broken 20 mil yet. Ya the pockets have limits.

Outside of 2009 when Sori was hurt and could barely run, he put up significantly better numbers than Trumbo.

They had to make a choice between Trumbo and Trout? LOL!!!

So let me get this straight, they couldn't keep Trumbo with his under $1M contract burden but they could somehow still afford Ibanez at almost $3M??

Um ok. Yeah that makes sense.

Face it, Trumbo got traded cause he isn't that good and was easily replaceable, not because the Angels couldn't afford him. That is a dumb argument that is pretty much a waste of time.
