I was having a discussion with a friend of mine and we came to a point where we talked about some interesting things that almost happened in the league, or more accurately could've been.

I'll give a couple.

One that would've hurt the Bulls was: What if Portland went ahead and drafted Jordan instead of Sam Bowie and paired him with Clyde Drexler? I really feel like Jordan would've been moved to the point guard spot where he would've excelled because he showed in 1989 that he could play the point with no hindrance to his game. In fact, him playing the point made him even MORE dangerous a player, if that was even possible.

What if the Magic and Golden State didn't pull off the trade that sent Anfernee Hardaway to the Magic and Chris Webber to the Warriors?

Could you imagine Shaq and C-Web playing together? How nasty would that have been? Granted Horace Grant doesn't move to Orlando in 95 because they wouldn't even be looking for him.

On the flip side, can you imagine the Warriors with an all Hardaway back court? They most likely still draft Sprewell and play him at the 3, and even with him they would be one of the fastest and explosive 1-2-3 + Mullin combos in the league.

Bonus, more recent: What if Portland (them again?) drafted Kevin Durant, instead of Greg Oden. Does Seattle still lose the Sonics? How good would a Roy/Durant/Aldridge/A. Miller squad be? Also, does Greg Oden still get the same knee injury? and if so, would OKC still get the Thunder which was an exciting team with Durant as opposed to having Oden which was a distinct possibility.

Discuss away.

Really?

I thought it would be fun to toss these ideas around, considering a lot of things that happened in the NBA wouldn't have happened had the drafts went a different way. No need to be a jerk about it.

Whos being a jerk? This is the "OT: What If" game, is it not?

I got one. What is Glides vagina wasn't so sandy?

Seriously man, relax. Yeah what if any of that happened, things around the NBA would have been much different. Would have changed history. What if Lebrons mom gave birth to the son of Brian Scalabrines dads seed?

Sounds like Jordan may played the Magic Johnson role. Thing is, I'm not sure about this, but wasn't Jordan more of a simply pure shooting guard when he came into the league?

If Horace Grant doesnt move to Orlando, and stays with the Bulls, they don't acquire Dennis Rodman in 1995. However, if Horace Grant leaves anyways and goes elsewhere, the Dennis Rodman move still happens.

As far as the Magic, well they'll play a different game than if they had Penny, and maybe their 1995 Finals results go differently. The Warriors likely stay the same kind of team, and lose early in the playoffs.

Bonus, more recent: What if Portland (them again?) drafted Kevin Durant, instead of Greg Oden. Does Seattle still lose the Sonics? How good would a Roy/Durant/Aldridge/A. Miller squad be? Portland is in the Conference Finals with ease if they drafted Durant. Seattle still moves to Oklahoma City (They had been talking about it before Durant). The Thunder don't become the team they are now obviously. Oden's knee injury happen no matter where he goes and Oden's body falls apart because the guy has a body of a 57 year old.

Okay maybe game was the wrong word to use. I actually meant to have a meaningful discussion of the possibilities of some things that would've majorly affected the league and moves other teams made.

I'll go change the title.

Thanks for your input. I hear you man. Those moves would have greatly impacted the league. A back court of Jordan and Drexler? Ouch.

Jordan coming into the league was skinny and fast and had great all around skill, so his game was more adaptable than Glide's was. Drexler came from Houston with Phi Slamma Jamma. So I don't know how his game would adjust.

Love this game.

I still think about this one -- What if LeBron and Bosh would've taken their talents to Chicago? Rose, LeBron, Bosh and Noah? With Gibson, Asik, Watson and a few others coming off the bench? Yikes.

What if Jordan wouldn't have retired in '93? 8 titles, right?

We can even think about this one -- what if the Chris Paul to the Lakers deal wouldn't have been stopped?

What if the Bulls drafted Beasley and the Heat drafted Rose. What would Chicago and Miami look like today?

I always think of how things could have been if Bosh/Wade never left chicago after their interviews.

Rose, Wade, Deng, Bosh, Noah, Gibson, Asik and idk who else we would have had. But seriously.. who would have beaten us? There would have been no Miami in our way.. LBJ probably would have gone to the Knicks to team up with amar'e, Chandler, Gallo, fields, etc. but they wouldn't have been better than the Bulls.

And also, if it turned out like that, Melo never would have been traded to NY. He probably would have ended up in NJ instead, meaning D-will wouldn't be in NJ right now.

I think about this too sometimes. Man did we get lucky.

I honestly think we would have drafted OJ Mayo. he was a PG/SG and they knew they ween't going to bring Ben Gordon back, so Mayo would have been his replacement. Plus a lot of people considered Mayo the most NBA ready player coming out of that draft. I don't think we would have drafted Beasley because we had deng and they seemed to like Tyrus Thomas at the time.

Ewwwww.... then again, the Sonics were who originally drafted Pippen. Would've went full circle, I guess.

You missed the point I was trying to make. It was about things that had an actual chance at happening without altering anything.

The better question in that is: What if the Bulls hadn't traded for Scottie Pippen and kept Olden Polynice like they drafted?

How would him and Jordan played and how much would Olden benefit from learning under Jordan?

This is based on draft positions being the same, not changing that, but seeing the teams not make certain trades or drafting a different guy instead. I was hoping that someone else would think about what could've been a real possibility.

Gotcha.

What if the Bulls took Josh Smith with the 7th pick in 2004 draft.
