I see the Giants winning the division over the Dodgers and an NL East team getting the WC spot. If the Tigers can get a 2nd baseman to help their horrendous infield defense and a pitcher they will win the division over the White Sox.

Barring a huge collapse, the Yankees will make the playoffs. I think Detroit will get hot and ultimately win the AL Central down the stretch. Texas will win the West, but the Angels will take one of the Wild Card spots.

In the NL, the Nationals will get in by either winning the East or via the Wild Card. Pittsburgh will slowly fade in the distance while the Reds rise and take the NL Central. The Giants will win the NL West and possibly by a big margin if Lincecum can get back on track down the stretch.

White Sox have a chance for a Wild Card. Pirates will fade like they always do.

Yankees, Tigers, and Rangers will win their divisions. Angels will win a wild card along with CWS, CLE, BAL, or TB

Nationals and Reds will win their divisions. Giants or Dodgers could win the west but whoever doesn't will get a wild card spot. The other one will be either the Cardinals or an east team.

note this isnt directed at zdemp since most of his posts are even keel.

But this thread is perfect for this forum. 99% of cub fans will vote the sox and its so predictable. atleast it gets some of you guys reasons to continue to follow baseball.

the poll should be "which horrendous team in 2012 that really really sucks will make atleast 1 playoff appearence by 2017"

ZDemp I appreciate your optimism especially as a Cubs fan, but the Angels/(insert AL East team here) will win the two wild cards, no second place team from comedy central will win a wild card, we never do

Lets look at the situation. The ace of the staff has never pitched more than a 136 innings, you have a guy that is pitching way over his head according to every statistical model and scouting expert that has spoken about him, and a guy that is healthy and pitching well for the first time since 2008. You have two 35 plus years olds putting up the best numbers in their career. You have a leadoff hitter that didn't even have a season's worth of at bats before the age of 28 that is playing like one of the best in baseball. A guy that nobody wanted is suddenly returning to elite levels of production. A team that is batting 43 points higher with RISP than overall. There is no possibility of regression there? The only explanation for thinking that the Sox might miss out on the playoffs is jealousy?

Sorry calling it like I see it. The White Sox have had just about everything go their way to start the season and managed only to build up a 3.5 game lead on the team most everyone thought would win. That team has gotten healthy, and is starting to come around. Sure everything that I mentioned above could hold true for the rest of the year. Danks might come back and be the pitcher that he was in years prior. And the White Sox could get a historic run of postseason pitching performance to ride to another WS title that got them their first one in 90 plus years. But don't give me this poor me, Cubs fans are jealous for thinking that the wheels might fall off this cart.

Danks hurt Humber bad. Misuse of Ohman. Misuse early on Sale. Injury to Morel. Hudson stinking. Ramirez and Bacon horrendous starts

Paulie beaned in eye. Dunn slumping last month to 2011 form

It's far from a perfect first half

When did I say perfect? I said just about everything went theor way. For everything you mentioned something unexpected happen to go their way. Danks goes down and a guy that was a nobody pitches like an ace for two months. Morel sucks and is hurt and the sox are able to give up nothing to land a guy that suddenly hits like it he is in prime again. It isnt perfect but as I said a lot has inexplicable gone the sox way.

For what it's worth i would pick the Pirates as the most likely to fade but considering the very small lead the White Sox have even the most fervent Sox fan has to admit there is a more-than-slim chance that Chicago-South misses the playoffs. It's not a guarantee that the Tigers will stop sucking but it's not impossible.

Brett look at Detroit or Toeonto to see what a team that had a lot go against it looks like. A team that has had 3 players go on the dl doesnt have a lot going against it.

1. Humber sucks
2. "Misuse" is on the team, not something that happened to them, something they did
3. See above, and Sale has put up some of the best numbers in the AL, so him being misused hasn't hurt them much anyway.
4. Morel fucking sucks.
5. Hudson sucks. Is he even a starter?
6. Slumping isn't something going wrong to the team, it is a few players not playing well, not in the same category as injury to star players.
7. One good player injured and doesn't even go on DL.
8. See 6, and sample size, still has a 128 OPS+. It has been such a major issue.
