Russell might be better...but what i know about him its some similarities there

this is a losing argument for me tho...i dont know much about Bill (only the basics) and him being such a great winner and all hes held in high regard

I can see this, Russell was the center piece for a Celtics dynasty...where Wallace was a center for a good Pistons team.

Yeah. I see a similar type thing with Bill Cartwright and Kareem Abdul Jabbar

Bill Russel was not a tank. He was pretty thin actually but was very strong(sinewy). Met him out here once on a golf course. He is TALL:)

You guys are comparing their scoring abilities through different eras. Would Bill Russell really triple Ben Wallace in points if he played the same time as Ben Wallace? I highly doubt it. I watched a few games on ESPN Classic and I don't think he is any better scoring wise. Ben Wallace was a dominant defender and rebounder in this era, so no doubt he would be even more so in Russel's era. As players(NOT IN TERMS OF ACCOLADES) they seem equal to me.

Bill Russell played in an era with no where near the talent that we have in today's game. Do you really think Bill Russell would be going around dribbling the ball and passing like he's Magic against this era's NBA?

If you think that Russell wouldn't triple Wallace in points if he played the same time as Wallace, does that mean Wallace is the superior offensive player?

So, when you watched these games on ESPN Classic, you saw no difference in the abilities of Bill Russell and Ben Wallace. All you noticed was that they played in different eras.

Great detective work!

Would Ben Wallace have been as effective as Russell offensively if Wallace played in Russell's era? No. Wallace didn't have the same skill set as Russell, at all. Passing, ball-handling, court vision, coordination.

They are basically the same player, limited offensively but great defenders and rebounders  Are you telling me that Russell's ball handling and court vision would be relevant against today's athletes in the NBA?

Where there is no hand checking and touch fouls called constantly? This NBA is weak and watered down as shit. As great as LeBron would have been in all eras, his ass would never go through the lane like he does present day. Someone would gave him about 20 broken noses by now. You cant compare todays basketball to even the 90's much less the 60's.

Great players would be great if they had the benefits of the era. Wallace was never great.
