Fivethirtyeight.com's list of Worst Offseason Acquistions Since 1996:

Two Bulls make the list, Eddie Robinson and Carlos Boozer.

AirGordon's favorite player, Ben Gordon, ranks #3 on this list.

Actually 3 made the list. Ron Mercer was a completely worthless signing after we missed out on EVERY big FA that year. I hated that guy.

No shock that Amare is #1. I told everyone when he signed that contract that the Knicks would get maybe two years out of him before his knee caps flew off. They got about 1.5 years. And to think people were EXTREMELY upset when we didn't sign him. One thing is for certain, if the Suns medical staff has concerns about a player's long term health, STAY THE HELL AWAY FROM THAT PLAYER.

In this infographic, it says Ron Mercer's deal with Denver was the bad part.

Ron Mercer scored points here, but he probably did little to help the Bulls win. I wouldn't say it was the worst FA.

Agree on Amare. I didn't really want him for the money he was commanding. The player I really wanted was Bosh.

I think at the time people's rankings for the PFs were

Bosh
Amare
Boozer/Lee

It's funny that Boozer ended up being the better signing. Even if you hated his guts while he was here, he put up 3 healthy seasons, never complained about his role, and put together as many good years as Amare did...all for less. Both teams are eating salary though, so...oh well.

Ron Mercer sucked, but we literally missed EVERY FA. All of them. So it's no surprise that Mercer and E-Rob are on this list.

I was never a big Bosh fan, but I have to say, he's really won me over. He was a Bulls killer with the Heat when LJ was there.

Thats dumb, and his contract was never bad.

Silly person to bring up.

Considering he took less money on every contract he's ever signed, it's silliness indeed.

Well documented: My personal list, mainly because I factored in salary(but I didn't expect stat to get anywhere near the contract he did get). I know, I'm being the 'I told you so' poster right now. IDK why, because everything has changed a lot since then(the lonely part of my statement that will get ignored). I just like to point out how much I did not want Boozer. #minorityopinions

Lee
Al Jefferson
Bosh
David West
Amare
Boozer

I don't even recall Al Jefferson and David West being options :bizarro:

I didn't really "want" Boozer per se either, but after we struck out on everyone else and it was basically Lee vs Boozer, I was ok with Boozer at the time.

On another forum I post on, the Bulls fans were drolling over the thought of Boozer. Their logic was we needed a post player to fit our style and put us over the top, and Boozer was the best post player(according to them). Then the gym bag thing happened and the Boozer bandwagon disappeared.

West and Al Jeff were on the table, just not as FAs, and I considered both moves realistic if the Bulls wanted to pursue them. Lee was my #1 though, mainly because I wanted the extra cap flexibility to lure in a SG.

Since the NBA changed to allowance of zone defenses, the NBA post player has been minimized. They are still a necessary key component, but they aren't as needed as traditional basketball use to be (sans the Jordan Bulls).

Well Boozer used to play in the post more than he did with us so I can sorta see the logic. I thought he'd be a bigger post presence, but it became quickly apparently he was a P&R guy. He always did better Kirk running point than Rose. Oh well.

Boozer could've worked out if we also got Joe Johnson though. If only.

I always felt like if we got Joe Johnson, we would have won in 2011.

Another guy that grabbed a contract big enough to prevent him from ever winning a title.

It certainly feels that way. He can shoot. He can create off the dribble. He's ridiculously clutch. Perfect match in fantasyland.
