It's not real clear in Wiki but I believe Mikita's parents sent him to Canada to be raised by an aunt and an uncle who later adopted him.

I saw a special on TV about him and that is pretty much what was said. He started playing hockey then because that's all that everyone did there. I wish I could remember where I saw it it, it was a really show about him.

NHL Network did a special on him they show every once in a while. Mikita's always been my fave player (duh!) since I began following the Hawks in 1965. My prized possession when I was 7 or 8 was a book Mikita wrote that was part-autobiography and part-hockey skills advise. Obviously, the hockey skills part never took hold with me, LOL, LOL, LOL! (even Jack Nicholson thinks that's funny!)

How would that even be a stat though, because neither are Slovakian born. The most goals by a Slovkian born player is probably sadly, non existent as a stat.
Even current Slovakians don't really qualify, all are born in CzechoSlovakia still, and the rare young Slovak like Dano, happened to be born in Austria where his dad was coaching hockey at the time.
Tomas Jurco, the great future Datsyuk skilled man who has been a meh NHL contributor but I'd still love to try to get on the Hawks if the Wings are selling this year, maybe Bowman will add him if he's looking for trade candidates, anyway... Jurco was born 4 days before new years 93 when Slovakia and czech Republic became officially separate countries. Close to being Slovakia's best born NHL talent, yet nobody currently exists with a goal.
So Hossa has the all time Slovkian nationalist goals record but is 100 points shy of Peter Stantsy's point total. Who for maybe because of his son being on the team, got not mentioned with bashing the Blues Winter Classic involvement despite him only having 28 games as a Blue.

1st, Slovaks tend to identify as Slovak regardless of when they were born. In fact, I never met one that considers themselves Czechoslovak, and in some cases, you'll get the shit kicked out of you if you refer to them as such...kinda reminds them of the socialist era...as they call it.
2nd: It's Slovak, not Slovakian. I made that mistake once.........once.
3rd, if the 'hawks can tout the fact that the the 3 Slovaks with over 500 goals all crossed that milestone with the 'hawks, then you know if/when Hoss passes Mikita they will tout that.

What's interesting now to me is how it came to him signing with that Agent that was friendly with Stan and Maciever to begin with. Was signing him a factor to why he chose the Hawks afterall.

HOw often in this day and age do you hear that from younger players. Take Derrick Rose as an example of the opposite. Of course hockey players are more regular people as far as I am concerned. Guys that if you run into in a bar, you can have a regular conversation with. The kid is really a special guy.

Let's also not forget that Derrick Rose gets scared by a child on Hallowe'en and he's out for the season. He's closer to Dr. Karpotszev than Panarin.
