What do you think of this story? As the story asks what would you do in this situation...and what the heck is a panhandeling permit?

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/oddnews...furious-man-who-gave-her-money-191826600.html

It's pretty hard to get away with scamming the public in a time when everyone has a cell phone with a camera. A woman in Oklahoma City found that out while begging for money on the street. The 78-year-old was holding a sign claiming she needed cash for food. According to Daniel Ayala, he had given her money on a few occasions even when he didn't have enough money to pay for his own lunch. The story could have ended there, but then one day Ayala noticed the woman sitting in the driver's seat of a bright red 2013 Fiat — not exactly what you would expect of a woman who begged for money. He couldn't contain himself and let the woman know how he felt by screaming at her in the parking lot.

Brandi Newman was there to witness the confrontation and captured it all on her cell phone before posting the video to her Facebook page on Oct. 1. In the profanity-filled video, which has been viewed more than 3.2 million times, Ayala tells the woman, "I work hard for my money" and "Thursday I did not eat to give you four dollars, and you drive a better car than me?" Ayala also threatens the woman, telling her that if he sees her in the same parking lot again, he will "bust a window."

Newman told KFOR 4 that she took out her phone to take a picture of the woman after realizing that she had been duped into giving the woman money, and that's when Ayala approached the car.

The elderly woman's grandchildren allegedly contacted Newman and told her that their grandmother has a panhandling permit and was not doing anything illegal. How would you react in a similar situation?

How about you don't give them money? Especially at the expense of eating.

Her worst crime, imo, wasn't to the people who gave her money. It was to the genuinely needy beggars these people likely won't give to next time.

Getting the license seems to be fairly easy and free but I imagine the dangers one would face actually being out and begging for money are slightly more than a regular job. Not to mention the ethics of it.

How much of a d-bag do you have to be to take the money others offer you out of the goodness of their hearts knowing you are probably making more (tax free no less) than they are?

I’ve heard many stories similar to this one. I also see quite a few of the same people day after day after day standing on the side of the road holding a sign saying they are just traveling through town trying to get to some destination or another. Funny how they never seem to make it to their intended destination.

A major d-bag.

Almost as much of a d-bag as the ultra-wealthy who pay politicians to vote for bills which further their ability to avoid paying taxes while the middle classes get bent over with no lube (which is essentially the same thing, just on a much, much larger scale).

this is a bit off topic (granted i started this thread) but,I dont disagree with you however I would bet that the majority of ultra wealthy wouldn't mind paying their share if they thought it all wasn't going to waste and ultimately just line some government employes pockets. Many of the ultra wealthy I know, and I know a lot due to the type of work I am in, are extremely philanthropic. They do a ton of charitable work but definitely dont like paying taxes..can't say I blame them.

Not that I have a lot of extra money to give, but I especially can't give to people holding a sign. I see stories like this too often and have personal knowledge of people doing this unnecessarily, so I can't believe anybody at this point.

I keep fruit with me wherever I go. Easy snack. If I see someone on the road with a sign, I'll offer them a banana, orange, apple. If they say no, then their loss. If they take it, then sometimes I'll give them some cash too. Odd litmus test, but seems to work for me.

Great, now all you panhandling fucks here are going to take all my bananas!

Fair point, but the ones at the very top who are now making puppets of our politicians could, if they wanted to, force those politicians to clean shit up and stop wasting our tax dollars. Heres the problem, they make money off of the waste of our tax dollars so they can keep making puppets out of the politicians and keep making more money. If the ultra wealthy hate the way taxes are wasted they should use their money to influence politicians to clean shit up and stop letting our tax dollars from going back in to their pockets or the pockets of their ultra wealthy peers.
