I brought yp Z and Marmol because they Cubs will/get a good pitcher in return and they can take the spot of Wells... So it wouldn't be entirely a big lost. Maybe the Cubs could get more but that all I can see them getting for Wells. If they don't like the trade for Wells, keep him as he still hasn't hit arb and is still young (27-28)..

CO will prolly say he's worth Strausburg or something as he's a typical ace that's worth him.

I think Z would be a salary dump kind of trade, but Marmol you'd definitely get good stuff back. It wouldn't be as good as if they hadn't signed Marmol to that stupid extension (ugh) but it'd still be good.

That extension was a good move by the FO. I like it a lot and still do. I don't think it changes much in a trade either. There's a very good chance he could have made that or more thru arb.

It wasnt THAT bad. I didnt like it, but I don't think the extension really hurt him that bad. Still signed fairly cheap.

Yeah I know, I had to do it lol. I thought it fit in well right there but I'll stop now. I swear. I do it once and a while...

Ha I got ya. Michael Pineda seems more reasonable. :)

Probably so, but I think you offer him the arbitration raise to ensure that he can keep the walk rate down and the strikeout rate up before you offer the extension. Then you let the other team in the trade deal with the guaranteed money when they offer the extension :D But what's done is done...it wasn't stupid in terms of the dollar amount, but stupid in that the Cubs basically spent money on a closer when they barely had any games to close out, and most projections saw the Cubs as an 80-win team at best anyway.

I just think its stupid to buy out arbitration unless its going to save you mega bucks (see Braun or Longoria). With Marmol I think it saved minimal and if he were to get injured or have an off year we are stuck paying him that.

Unless you are getting several years past arby (which I dont think you should do with pitchers anyhow) I don't think its really worth it in most cases. Just my opinion though.

I give you a shitload of credit for taking the time to think all of these up waldo.

Keep up the good work bud!

I definitely second these sentiments. Just pointing out the ones I saw problems with.
