Did Greg Roman even get in interview anywhere for a HC job? If he didn't then that's crazy to me but it's not like you come along a L.Jackson type QB every day. He's a unicorn.

So what are Pat Shurmur's options?:

He's not going to come back to the Giants in a diminished capacity.
He's not going to get the Cowboys OC job---sounds like Kellen Moore is a shoo-in to stay. (McCarthy likes him. Jerry Jones likes him. And he likes being there.)
Redskins already hired Scott Turner as their OC.
Surely he wouldn't go back to the Browns just a handful of years after getting fired there.

So that leaves OC for either the Bears or Panthers.

Matt Rhule's 7-year deal does give probably a lot more stability to the Panthers job than the Bears job. (Any OC coming here has to know that if there's not a quick turnaround, they're probably fired within a year, two max).

That said, reports say Matt Rhule really wants Sean Ryan (Lions QB coach) as his OC. If that happens, the Bears OC spot is really the only position open to Pat Shurmur if he wants to coach this year, unless he'd be open to an offensive consultant gig or something.
Eagles OC job is now open as well

Would Nagy give up play calling though?
Otherwise what's the point.
No, Nagy is not going to give up calling the plays.

But they are going to hire an OC. The OC matters. Especially now, because Nagy's Offense was statistically horrible and buck is on him. The OC matters, especially if it's a guy with cred... cause he's going to be influential on what plays get drawn up and called.

I think a respected OC could be a VG influence, including the playcalling even if Nagy retains it.

Shurmur would be nice to have even if he doesn't call plays because he can critique Nagy's play design and make it better. Also, I'd like to think he would be more vocal to Nagy about play calls then Helfrich.

If Nagy still tries to force passing into nickel and dime coverage then I don't see the point of an OC.
Huh? Nagy didn't throw 1 pass. That was your lover boy, Mitch, making poor decisions as well as poor throws.

If I have to explain who calls the plays based on defense you need more help than this forum can provide.

That's the reason for our new OL and TE coaches...because we couldnt run against those defenses either...

good point, but Nagy really didn't try either

If I need to tell you it's the QB passing the ball, reading the defense and making the decision of who to pass the ball to, you might as well just stop watching football altogether... if you even do watch.

Shurmur will end up in Minnesota. What OC would want to come to Chicago?

Maybe. Kubiak was in Minnesota too.

The main reason a OC would come here is there just aren’t that many openings.

this is hard for you.....if the defense is in nickel and dime coverage and you are down by one score....its ok for the coach to call a running play. In fact it is encouraged...Nagy failed to do that. Not sure what mental block is causing this to be a problem for you.
