After 2 preseason games PFF has ranked all the 1st Rounders and Kyle Long is first with a +8.0 for all rookies.....
https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2013/08/20/first-rounders-in-focus-preseason-wk-2/

20. Kyle Long, G, Chicago Bears
Grade: +8.0
Snaps: 86
Analysis: Getting an extended workout against the Chargers, Long put forward the performance of the week. He now sits atop the preseason guard rankings and has the highest grade of any player at any position. Looks like he’s providing an immediate upgrade already.

Its funny to see how some guys that people loved are doing like Alec Ogletree, meanwhile some of the so called greatest guards in a generation are really struggling so far.

Jesus Christ I have never seen such an over the top asinine reaction to two preseason games like I have seen from Bears fans over the last two weeks. This is like Cubs fans who get excited over a big spring training win....oh wait.

Clearly not a bears fan then.

Ogletree is playing the wrong position in STL...

The rams are stupid as hell...

Ogletree was a MLB in college... he was a super athletic guy who makes plays based on his agility speed and his ability to take the right angles...

They have him playing SLB... where he is constantly taking on TEs not moving his feet... not free to engage the runner... taking on blocks from TE's and FBs...

The Rams are borderline the dumbest team in the NFL... Ogletree might already be broken playing a position he doesn't belong at...

Reminds me of Quinton Coples... a 43 DE forced to play in a 3-4...

And like Albert Haynesworth... some coaches just ruin guys... early or late... if a player isn't happy or comfortable playing a certain position it might break there spirit rather than make them try to learn there new role...

It might not be right for the player to give up... but it happens so often when a square peg is getting shoved into a round hole...

TO all Bear fans, be happy with the progress of Long, but let's not over do it. It has been only two preseason games. Way too early to get excited thinking we have picked up the best OL of the draft.

Given the fact that some thought it was a bad pick in the beginning may be the reason for so much excitement. The other part is that he appears, appears. to be a big, nasty athlete who could be a long term, high quality starter. Its been a while since the Bears have had one and that might be a large part of the positive talk.

I would think playing SLB would be easier than playing Mike for a rookie. Plus from what I've seen he has been missing open field tackles not just having trouble in coverage. Either way I know its too soon to say anybody is a bust so we will see how it all plays out.

To throw in my own Debbie Downer spin in, has he faced anyone close to the talent level of Suh, K. Williams or Raji?

I'm not saying he's bad at all and if put in his position he can only win the battle over the guy in front of him, but all of this should be taken with a grain fo salt.

Technically Long's first test will be in week 1 of the regular season against the Bengals. From there it's an interesting mix of tougher matchups.

This but his angles and reactions weren't that great, he just made up for it with his athleticism. Even if successful at Mike I wouldn't expect him to excell this year

Long's strength hasn't been in question so big strong guys shouldn't provide any unisual problems for him. They're still great players you'd expect some problems with but I don't see a specific one.
