Thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends during this trying time. May there be a ray of light that gives hope and makes sense of a terrible tragedy.

Just saw from JJ at Hockeybuzz...

"While neither Igor Korolev nor Alexander Karpovtsev are fondly remembered by Hawk fans, these two men who once wore the Indianhead were likely on the tragic, crashed Yaroslavl flight in Russia. Both Korolev and Karpovtsev are assistants to head coach Brad McCrimmon."

I will never be able to laugh at that video of Foley making fun of Karpovtsev ever again.

This offseason needs to be over and players need to stop dying.

IIRC, a lot of Russian domestic carriers are still using old Soviet-era planes.

Alexander Galimov is at a hospital in Moscow.

Heard conflicting stories about Galimov. Prayers are with him, the victims, and their families. Loved watching Demitra play. Horrible year for hockey. May we end 2011 with no more tragedies.

Incredibly sad story. But I guess we all had to know something like this would eventually happen with all the games, tight schedules and the constant travel in pro sports. Think of all the flights...NHL 41 +playoffs, NBA 41 +playoffs, MLB 81+playoffs and 10 +playoffs in the NFL. That's well over 5200 flights a year in ONE year just in the US and how many crashes? I really dont know, has there been any in pro sports before this one? I know college has had some....Iowa State, Evansville and of course Marshall come to mind but the reality of it is that they are beating the odds and have been doing it for a long time. Myself, I hate flying....always have, always will and am grateful I was never good enough to play pro sports.
