While the NBA Players Association's executive committee is staunchly against accepting the league's recent "ultimatum" offer, it is not a certainty that the player reps who will meet with them Tuesday will feel the same way, a source close to the situation told ESPN The Magazine's Chris Broussard on Monday.

The source said some of the reps may favor decertification while others may want to accept the deal.

"I don't think there's going to be a consensus," the source said. "And that would be a problem."

With a Wednesday deadline looming to accept the league's latest labor proposal, player representatives from all 30 teams have been summoned by the union to New York for the mandatory meeting to update them on negotiations, sources have told ESPN.com.

Union sources have said the executive board remains unwilling to present that offer to the union's estimated 450 members for a vote and plans to make that stance clear to team player reps at the meeting.

Sources told ESPN.com that union leaders have not budged from the view that the NBA's offer is "unacceptable," just as NBPA president Derek Fisher described it in the wee hours of Sunday morning once Saturday's marathon bargaining session finally ended.

that's so fuckin stupid.

don't those 450 members deserve to know what the offer was? Who the hell are Derek Fisher and Billy Hunter, etc. to say what's a good deal and what isn't? What if most of those 450 members are cool with the deal? They gotta deal with the season being over because a few guys don't like the deal?

One player rep told me he's leaning toward pushing for acceptance of deal at Tuesday's union meeting; another said he's undecided....

Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Anthony Parker, Cavs player rep, said he favors rejecting deal. Said Cavs teammates and player reps he's spoken with are also against deal.

Chris_Broussard Chris Broussard
Parker said players have 2 options: accept deal or decertify. He thinks players could decertify and get deal done in time for season.

David Stern was on SportsCenter.

He basically said what most of us know... but hearing it makes you think that the players should REALLY take this deal.

He said this deal would be a 50-50 split, but there won't be changes to the cap, the MLE will stay at 5 million dollars and I think he mentioned something else staying the same.

If the players don't accept this one, the Owners are going to offer a 53-47 split in their favor and a hard cap.

The owners might be bluffing... but I wouldn't test it.

AFTER ALL THEY ARE THE ONES THAT BOUGHT THE FUCKING TEAMS TO DO AS THEY PLEASE AND PAY WHAT THEY WANT.....they. bought the teams to make money period just like any other business..THEY COULD PAY THE. PLAYERS 20 DOLLARS AN HOUR IF THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT...........THEY ARE THE BOSS.....**** IT

Every single NBPA team rep needs to take a long, hard look at what occurred during the NHL Lockout of 04-05. The Owners took a hardline, made an ultimatum to which the NHLPA scoffed at, then the next day Betteman canceled the whole season. Then July of the following year, the NHLPA agreed to a deal which gave the owners exactly what they wanted.

The same will happen here if the players allow it to. What concerns me is the fact that the players union will not even consider bringing this to their 450 members for a vote. That spells it plain as day that even if player reps push for this deal, the execs will still not accept it. And if they decide to decertify, it will be an absolute joke & will be overturned by the courts just like the NFL's attempt was.

Several NBA players such as Kobe Bryant, Glen Davis, LaMarcus Aldridge, & Kevin Martin have already publicly stated their willingness to accept the current offer. I found Martin's comments the most effective in possibly swaying the vote.

"If you know for sure they are not moving, then you take the best deal possible," We are risking losing 20 to 25 percent of missed games that we'll never get back, all over 2 percent over an eight- to 10-year period. And let's be honest: 60 to 70 percent of players won't even be in the league when the next CBA comes around."

"When we are negotiating as free agents, we're always saying, 'Well I'm going to do what's best for my family,'" he wrote. "So now we're lying, because right now, losing money isn't helping our families at all. I'm not criticizing the fight our union is doing, because they have been in every meeting adding up to countless hours and have been breaking down every number possible. I believe in them and know they have the best interest for us. My opinion -- which is just one of 450 players -- is that if it comes down to losing a season and 100 percent of the money, we all definitely have to sit down and think about reality. That doesn't sound smart to possibly become part of the growing unemployment rate."

I guarantee Stern leaked that to Chris B on purpose. Makes them look strong on there Ultimatum and makes the players feel like they win in a sense on the deal. That is the genius of Stern the players will cave IMO.

lol at the Special person claim that small market owners could just jack up prices and people would still buy tickets.

They don't even come CLOSE to selling out games. If prices went up, NOBODY would show up.

true the Pacers basically give tickets away running deals all the time and still people dont go raising price would kill some teams attendance.

same argument could be made about the owners...their whole schtick is basically "protect us from ourselves"....

no its not the league lost 300m dollars last year 350m the year before the system is broke. The owners deserve to break even or make a little if ran correctly 50% is more than fair. If I was the Pacers owner I would want 55% in my favor. Jordan wants 63% of BRI for the owners. So the owners are clearly comprimising the owners really want 47% . 50% is more than a compromise.

BTW the Spurs lost tons of money last year and they are the best run team in the NBA. The system clearly needs retooled

Once again, if the Players don't take the deal from the owners, you can kiss a season goodbye.

Might not be fair, but the Owners have the upper hand.

Stern didn't leak anything to Chris Broussard... he didn't need to.. that's why he went on SportsCenter...

I think he was talking to the players on SC. He knows Fisher isn't going to tell them what the owners are offering, so he's gonna make sure the player reps know the offer. He even said he'll be sending the info to each player ref.

Which makes me wonder why fisher won't tell the player reps the offer and instead meet with them to tell them to stay strong and fight it out until they get a fair deal. If this deal is so bad, then why not show it to the player reps and explain why it's so bad and tell them to stay strong?

I think Fisher knows that the offer isn't that terrible and is afraid that a lot of the player reps would be willing to accept the offer. I just don't understand why Fisher thinks that's TERRIBLE offer. it really isn't that bad..

If "7-11" owners are hoping the players reject the offer, I think that says a lot.

Yeah I agree and I also think that the union knows if they did a vote that they would hear more players ok the 50-50 deal and they really don't want to hear that. They want to pretend everybody wants to fight, but it's starting to look like that's not reality.

Bolded is exactly what I fear. The reality of having no season is really starting to set in if these two sides don't agree very soon.

The owners and players both have voiced their displeasure at Stern's deal. The chances of any games this year is getting bleaker by the minute now. :(

some players want 52.5%, some players are okay with the 50-50 split.

Some owners want 53%, some owners are okay with a 50-50 split.

It just makes sense to do a 50-50 split right now.

I can't wait to see what the players say after they meet today

There will be no season. You guys might as well resign yourselves for that inevitability.

Start worrying about the 2012-13 season.
