It's not the matter of whether Jordan should or shouldn't be saying this now. It's the matter of him wising up and seeing a different point of view that he didn't back in 1998-99. So now he is coming up with a hypocritical position as a result.

The Bobcats shouldn't even be allowed to have an NBA franchise. The NBA needs to retract because there are 11 small market teams that simply cannot make a net profit. The players are the ones who earn the league's revenue and if it were not for the small market owners being unable to do well then they would continue to get at least 57% instead of somewhere between 47-50.2%.

So just because some players get overpaid means that the players should all lose money? Should we just ignore the fact that they are the ones garnering all of the interest in the league that creates revenue?

Small market teams are not surviving in the NBA. Especially in this economic climate. There are certain owners that don't even want a salary cap like Cuban, Arison, and the multi-billionaire Russian owner of the Nets. I'm not even going that far. Obviously, the salary cap needs to be the same for each team, whether it is a hard or soft cap. The small market teams are completely unable to compete with the spending of the few big market teams and are trying to bring it down to a level which they can conveniently pay- just so they can survive.

The NBA NEEDS retraction of a number of teams.

I do understand. Small market teams have the biggest fans. In some areas, they depend on the team economically as well.

But there are some teams, like Toronto and Charlotte, who have no business being NBA franchises because they are completely bringing down the league by (a) watering down its talent and (b) trying to bring down player revenue when no other teams otherwise would care to.

The NBA should stop guaranteed contracts and then there would be no more Eddy Curry/Rashard Lewis/Stephon Marbury/Jerome James situations.

TOR?? They are a huge market(i think like 4th biggest) and have a really high attendance they do suck but the Bulls sucked for a few years after Jordan left everyone has to rebuild at some point every team as down years.

just read an article like this. Taking a whole team away would do so much harm to the economy and the fans of that city. If that was the only way to fix it was contraction than yes you contact but the players can take a little less and the owners can revenue share to make sure the whole league thrives. (each team make 30m per season opposed to lose 30m per season)

Well, it doesn't really matter what could have been because the fact is that the only way this situation is going to get resolved is by the players taking a rather unfair, but necessary, deal at 47-50%. It would be far from an absolute tragedy, but it probably won't save a lot of the NBA small market teams like Charlotte from completely going under.

The reason I don't like so many small market teams is because without them the league would be less watered down in terms of talent. And the league would also have been able to avoid a long lock-out like the one that it is inevitably facing.

Good point about Toronto being such a large market, but not every team has a LeBron/Cleveland-type of situation.

There's still one more month left of this crap we will have to endure until the season is officially dead. If no deal is in place by the end of the 1st week in January, officially kiss the season goodbye.

If the players decide to decertify, which would be a gargantuan mistake, the season will be gone instantly. Hopefully these two sides work something out because I'm sick of reading about millionaires & billionaires bickering over millions of dollars while I'm eating Ramen for dinner.

GET A DEAL DONE DICKWADS!
