Has Ryan Pace's brain fully developed yet, or should we wait a few more years?

Top FA choices? What makes the most sense? Maybe an "under the radar" cheap signing you guys think would bring some bang for the buck?

Try to be more creative than Trevathan...

Is Fox or Fangio more responsible for the improvement on defense? Should the Bears keep drafting/signing players for a 3-4 defense if Fangio may get a head coaching job? Would it be smarter to take a solid (8 out of 10) player with the flexibility to play in a 4-3 or 3-4 over a better 3-4 player that would have no place or just be okay but a waste of talent in a 4-3? If Fangio leaves and the team has mostly players that are only a fit in a 3-4 defense it could limit potential replacements.

Also on the "if Fangio might leave" scenario - We saw the improvement (over Mel Tucker which isn't hard) in the Bears defense under Fangio last year and most people (in the NFL and fans) seem to consider him to be a good to great D coordinator. Should the Bears go all-in to get players this free agency period and draft to specifically fit Fangio's style and preference of players in hopes of creating a dominant defense that may only last a year? If Gase got a HC job from helping Manning be Manning and Cutler be slightly better Cutler, then turning the shit they trotted out and called a defense into a dominant one in 2 years has to get Fangio some looks at the very least. Broncos just showed the NFL that defense can still win championships.

I think Fangio's "style" can be replicated to some degree. Now, there is a lot more to Fangio than style, let that be clear. But, getting quality players through the draft that fit the 3-4 defense is about all the Bears can do. Fangio could easily find a HC job but, IIRC, didn't even interview. So, maybe, he is content for the time being. Or, maybe he jumps ship after this year. I don't think anyone other than Fangio and maybe Pace and/or Fox know what Fangio is likely to do. So I think you go get the best players that fit the scheme.

I don't know whether one should put the "who is responsible" on either Fox or Fangio. Right now, like it or not, Fox is the HC and they should get players that Pace and he likes with as much input from Fangio that they trust. At the end, getting any talented player that fits the 3-4 is a good thing and I would think that would be what they will do. The defense will get better this year. Throw in a FA or two and a couple of 1-3 round draft picks and we should see some significant improvement.

Seems odd to make a podcast the day before FA signings. I'd expect a lot better material and more interesting questions in another day or 2.
