My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
Just saw that haha. It's been a glaring problem at times when he get bull rushed like a rag doll.

(5) Left tackle Braxton Jones continues to heal from ankle surgery and is expected to be limited at the outset of training camp.
"He's right on track," Johnson said. "Will that mean he's limited in training camp? I would say probably at this point, but I think the progress is right where it needs to be right now."
Johnson feels that Jones can "absolutely" play left tackle in the Bears offense.

"The No. 1 thing that tackles need to do is pass protect," Johnson said. "I think he has the feet to get that done. We're going to challenge him to maybe gain a little more weight so that he can anchor a little bit better in pass pro. But everything I've seen so far has shown a phenomenal athlete out there on the edge that we feel like we can work with.
I love off season platitudes

For someone like Braxton, it will likely be difficult to add meaningful mass and strength at this point in his career, especially coming off injury.

The thing that should help him out more than anything, as well as Wright, is the scheme. The Bears left their OTs out to dry a ton and BJ gives help to his OTs a lot more often. I still remember when they started Kiran with barely any practice time, coming off an injury, and they were leaving him on an island against the freaking Vikings lol

Ben operates much differently and Braxton/Wright are going to see more help than they’ve ever seen in their Bears careers.
I believe Ben Johnson is aware of his injury and still made a point to say he needs to add weight. So the obvious conclusion is they feel he can add weight. Otherwise Ben Johnson would not have said it.

Please explain to me exactly which exercises in open chain will meaningfully help Braxton’s anchor?

Edit: please provide sources.

PS: last time we went down this route was the cam Meredith situation so please remember that.

PPS: good luck
You seem confused. Ben Johnson said he needs to add weight to improve his anchor. He doesnt need ankles to add weight. Do you eat with your ankles?

The point was while he is adding weight by increasing his calorie intake, he can also work on his upper body and core strength and do some leg exercises that dont involve his ankles so that the weight he is adding is mostly muscle not fat.

Additional weight plus more upper body and core strength will certainly improve your chances of holding up against a bull rush.

The obvious conclusion is Ben wants him to add weight and get stronger, not necessarily that it’s realistic for him to accomplish that during his rehab or when he’s healthy enough to resume football activities.

Think you are over complicating things. Don't think his rehab has any impact on how much he eats and adding weight is principally about eating more for a guy his size.

The fact he is rehabbing and hence likely not going as hard makes it easier to put on more weight because he is unlikely to burn the amount of calories he normally would if he were going all out.

Eating more plus lighter workouts should equal more weight.

It’s more about adding strength than sheer weight. That’ll be tough for him right now and even coming off the injury initially

Definitely agree with all this getting a stronger upper body and getting PHAT while not able to adequately strengthen his legs will most definitely help his anchor.

Just like how Cam Meredeth was ahead of schedule with his ACL rehab and then out of the league approximately 2 months after that quote was made, because he actually was never able to fully recover. Strange how that happened.

Thanks for clearing it all up for me!

Take that up with Ben Johnson sir as he obviously thinks it is doable. I mean it is not like he has actually met with and understands Jones injury better than you do.

Like how the team's surgeons 'understood' Cam Meredeth's injury better than I did saying he was ahead of schedule, and then he promptly never returned?

Is it anything like that level of knowledge or are we talking a different level of knowledge?

Or maybe we are talking 0 knowledge and just coach speak? Maybe Ben Johnson is just giving an answer to reporters without really giving any medical answer? Is that possible?

Sir this regime has nothing to do with Meredith. So yes we are talking a different level of knowledge as this regime employs different people than the regime that got the Meredith situation wrong.

Maybe Johnson is just talking coach speak but maybe you just dont know what you are talking about. Time will tell.
