yeah this is ***. and I was totally politically incorrect with my insult too.
and I second you supra I wasn't aware of a geisha costume being negative.
When someone dresses up as a terrorist, its not a "middle eastern person" costume, its a terrorist costume.
The biggest problem I have with that, is not what they find "offensive" but what they DON'T find offensive (not that I am implying they should find it offensive).
I doubt youre are going to find a poster in their protest of a guy in a hillbilly outfit complete with racing hat and fake mullet swilling beer with some meek looking white guy holding it up saying "Waaa this is not me this is not who i am and its not ok waaa".
Thats the the biggest problem I have with "racial" political correctness, its like assuming white people dont give a shit if their distinct sub culture is made fun of. (which frankly I dont give a shit, but it annoys the piss out of me other people do) therefore if your gonna be this way, be this way equally.
Theres almost a sense of white people being a blank canvas that has no culture to even parody, so arent even included in the conversation as ever being racially offended.
As I mentioned before I dont give a shit, people can say cracker, honkey. Call me a mick a stupid Slav I could care fucking less. But if you are going to go all whiny and politically correct, be fair about it.
I think that it's not exactly about white people not giving a shit, but it goes along the lines of one of the other overwhelming issues that I see with all the PC campaigns, and that is that they all seemed to be directed AT white people. Almost like white people are the only ones who are capable of being racist, or having prejudice tendencies. And racist stereotype predicated against white people at this point is still hilarious. And that I see as the biggest problem with the entire PC argument, is that you aren't treating everyone in the argument the same. There is someone of every races, shape an color, who hates someone of every other race, shape or color around the world. Telling people that they are being racially insensitive with their (in this case) costumes, is only reinforcing the behavior and giving them the reaction that they chose the costume for in the first place. Campaigns like this do nothing. If you want to do something you have to get to the root of the problem at a much early age and teach equally to kids. Unfortunately no matter what you teach them, it's more likely to be over ridden by the example set by their parents. I have friends of all backgrounds.
White Men Can't Jump
White Men Can't Dance
White People can get taxi's
White People can get loans
White Women are all soccer moms
White People are dirty hippies and listen to jam bands
White People are all racist
White people who listen to rap and hip hop are wannabe's
ect....
Where is the outrage? No where, because everyone seems to think that being white is such an advantage in life that we are protected from the hardships everyone else endures. That they not only should be prejudiced against white people, but that we deserve it.
I'm all for equality, in every way, rights, prejudice, white women... whatever you want.
