Any one listen to Pompei yesterday on 670AM? He said Alshon's inability to get/stay on the field and injuries are becoming his defining characteristic. It seemed to me that he was flat out questioning his competitive spirit. And he mentioned Alshon's disappointment in losing his work out partner/mentor in B-Marsh and how it's affected him negatively. If that is true, that's just pathetic.

And while Pompei mentioned Alshon's possible emotional issues, he also pointed to the injuries that he has suffered all of being of the soft tissue vartiety. All in all, it's just not good. The guy's in his contract year and can't even get on the field.

We could really use an effective WR out right now. Whatever is wrong with him, I hope he gets it together ASAP.

When you rely on running full speed, hamstring and quad injuries aren't good. Why would you question his competitive spirit? Sounds like stirring up the pot...

And he probably didn't like that Marshall was traded. They were friends and Brandon made it easier on the field for him...what does that have to do with anything though? Is he implying Alshon is coasting because of it? I doubt it. Not in a fucking contract here. Pretty bad article

I watched Alshon in practice at training camp. I don't question his competitive spirit. I do question the trainers. Soft tissue injuries usually come from inadequate stretching or warming up the muscles before trying to "GO" or imbalances elsewhere in the muscle group.

And it's not mental toughness that stopping you from going full speed, it's the muscle itself not being able to perform because it's damaged. Continuing to push it when it's damaged will lead to more damage. I once pulled my hamstring so bad it sounded like a gun going off. Because I didn't properly let it heal afterwards and I kept trying to come back too soon, it was more than six months before it was healthy.

This guy wants to be a #1 WR and he can't even stay on the field. I don't know what his future with this team is...

I think if we knew we would be a competitive team this year then they would of had him playing but since we're not then why take the chance cause the injuries he has especially the hammy is a tricky injury that easily can get re-injured if it's not 100% healed.

I just want him and White on the field for the last 6-8 games, just to see what this offense can be like at full strength. It would help in making decisions about the QB and RB position this offseason too.

Verdict is in, draft a replacement for Cutler. Coming from a Cutler fanboy.

Soft tissue injuries are chronic so Alshon looks soft.

that's insane, is he questioning Alshon's toughness? He played hurt all year last year.

Is he saying that he's injury prone? i don't know why that's his fault, he works out hard and plays hurt, and he excels while playing that way.

Why isn't he AARPn like cutler to get his ass back on field?

Seriously tho, it's not the trainers fault; this is his 2nd year with this issue. I will say he's got to get on the field to earn that paycheck he wants.

And dan may have sources telling him this, guys. Pompei is a pretty well respected writer.

So BPD IS contagious. Good thing we shipped Marshall out when we did, so it didn't spread any further.

From what it sounded like to me, Pompei seemed to indicate that Alshon being side-lined is the result of several factors:

1) Constant injuries of the soft tissue variety.
2) Possible lack of competitive spirit, or simply not the most competitive of players.
3) Possible lingering emotional affect over the loss of his mentor/training partner in B-Marshall.

One thing he was clear about is that he doesn't believe Alshon's looming FA has anything to do with it.

Bottom line is he can't stay on the field. He played through injury last year at 22 years old or whatever he was. As you get older, soft tissue becomes easier to pull and tougher to heal. He's not getting TY Hilton money. That said, I think the Bears can afford to extend him if they want. But you know what's going to happen. Someone like the patriots or cowboys will take him and pay him crazy money.

But...I don't see it. I think he plays second half and does very well. Then gets the tag and re-works contract with Year 1 coming on Kevin White's Year 2 rookie contract. Hopefully White is good enough to extend and Alshon is trade bait during Year 2 or 3 of his new deal.

Don't forget he was hurt as a rookie and essentially redshirted. It is safe to say that he has injury problems, whatever the reason. It sucks but has to be considered in negotiations.

trade bait?

Yeah. If we tag Alshon next year and sign him with his new first year being 2017 on a 5 year deal, we could possibly trade him or even release him after his 2nd or 3rd year if White turns out to be a stud. Don't have much experience here, just stating a thought.
