Who said anything about taking him out of the lineup... how about just putting him back at his natural position. but really, did you just say that Shaw is the skill in the lineup? I think they have plenty of that elsewhere. Edit: and if you are going to start talking plus minus three games in and hits, we can talk about him being 2nd on the team in giveaways and last in takeaways with 0. And it's funny you bring up faceoffs because he's actually better than Bolland and Kruger right now.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
I think it's funny that this team is 3-0 (for the first time in 40yrs) and so many ***** and moan that Q juggles his lines too much

Yet...move Shaw..insert Mayers, sit Bollig...put Stalberg with Toews/Hossa...all these "changes" want to be made.

Fact is...when things are going well, Q rolls the lines. When they are struggling is when Q juggles - and people complain then.

Honestly, I think the lines/parings shouldn't be touched. They're working for now. I think the only "complaint" is that they need to roll Bollig a bit more just because he hasn't been a liability and that means the other 3 lines are more rested since their players aren't subsituted in for him. An extra shift or 2 for him with his linemates wouldn't hurt us.

In fact, no one is inherently a "liability" as long as they play their own games. When they try to do too much and force a play is when any trouble starts. That's mental and correctable.

Shaw is a skilled player. Skilled players can have grit.

He had 12g/23pts in 37gms last year...I think that shows some skill?

In Mayer's 13+ years in the league, his top years were 15g and 12g...26/27pts respectively - in full seasons.

08-09 OHL...listed as center

09-10 OHL...listed as center

10-11 OHL...listed as center

So yes...I do think he's much more skilled than a 38yr old Mayers.

The only one Mayers may be better than is Bollig. But that line has been good as well, and not sure why it should be split up.

Not on the injury report this morning. Carcillo out for a month, lower body, non surgical, assuming that means groin.

I thought Shaw was a natural center. Played center in juniors ect...and was switched to wing. I'll give him a few more games before passing judgement.

With the fact that this team is 3-0 for the first time in 40 years, Q would be a fool to change anything right now.

But as I said before, 40 minutes of hockey isn't going to cut it down the stretch.

And as Winos said above, I also thought Shaw was a natural center as well.

Not sure why people are not sold at all on Bollig. He's a great team guy, drops the mits with a purpose, is good for a few offensive chances and solid shifts a night, and overall has done exactly what you'd ask a big body 4th line guy to do. I would like Bollig up here all year.

Agree. I compare him to a Zenon Konopka like player. He knows his role and plays it well. Thought he went toe to toe with Biz-Nasty the other night, maybe came oot ontop just cuz Biz-Nasty got tired oot.

There was one think I dislike about last night and that is how quickly the ice turned to shit. Usually within the first 5-7 minutes of the period. Usually just after the 1/2 point of each period it looked like there had been a 6 hour free skate on the ice.

Correct...I heard last night that the last 3-0 Hawks start was 1972-1973 and could not hardly believe it.

And remember, 3-0 is the new 5-0 with the condensed season.

Does that mean that 11.5 playoof wins equals a cup in this strike-shortened seasoon?

Probably because of say things like his going scoreless in the quarter season he played last year or even this young season with the Yotes and Blues games where his TOI was all of a shade over 5 mins which means he's not doing anything really to further the crucial distribution of time in this condensed season? He's pulling about 50% of the TOI as the rest of the 4th line. Which tells me he or his perceives "talents" really can't be trusted for much more. Or the bullshit BizNasty STAGED fight? Fighting is fine by me when it's legit but this staged shit all across the league is for fucking pussies IMO. If Q is gonna keep him suited up though and play him those types of minutes then fine but then folks can't be all amazed if others see it as just this year's "Q goon pet" project and complain about it.

Also, unrelated to your post but it's funny to me how before the first game a few of us advocated for Saad being on the top line with Toews-Hossa instead of the 3rd he'd been on in TC and one of the resounding responses was he needed to "earn" it, that it sends a bad message to the team about stepping over a vet like Carcillo. So Bollig earns his slot on the roster because of his Rockford play but Mayers the vet who actually averages over 50% on FOs? He's skippable for Shaw at Center?

I just wanted to share this cool but surreal experience from last night.

I watched much of the game at home but I had my own rec league game to play at 10:45pm at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis (yes, the Blues arena). I headed down to the rink (arena), parked, found my way in the back door, through the tunnels, and to our temporary locker rooms (the visitor and axillary locker rooms are being renovated this week so we dressed in the Press lounge and NHL Refs dressing room). When I got to the "locker room" area I found ten to fifteen of my local friends (nearly all Blues fans save me and two others who are Hawks fans) who were watching the end of the game on a TV in the dressing room used by performing artists before concerts. We watched the end of the game, which as we know the Hawks won, then played our own game. It was civil (surprising with all the douchebag loudmouthed Blues fans in this city) but a great experience on face value alone.

Fortunately for me (and my two teammates that are Hawks fans) we went out on the Scottrade ice and wooped the other team 8-3. All in all, a great night to be a Hawk fan and beer leaguer!

Seriously? The Scottrade Center? Is this where your rec league plays often/all the time? That's very high-end! Or was there something special about last night's game. In any event, VERY cool.

I live close to and usually play at the US Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights, IL (outside St. Louis). Several months ago now the facility was severely damaged by mine subsidence. The rink was built with a lot of public funds around 1990 but it is owned by a conglomerate in Chicago that has ten other rinks up there. Hockey is popular down here but not at the level it is in Chicago or places like the Twin Cities and big cities in Michigan. As such, they have done jack nothing to repair our rink and open it back up to the public.

One of the guys in my rec league (my captain this session in fact) is a coach and program manager for the traveling peewee team in the area, the Ice Hawks. He talked to people at the Scottrade in the fall to get the Ice Hawks and other SW IL schools some ice time at the arena. They loved the business during the lockout and our league (the Scott Hockey League) subsequently signed a contract to play there on Tuesday nights until mid February. We have about 5 weeks left on our season and the Blues are doing their best to honor our contract. We couldn't play last Tuesday because the Blues had a scrimmage that was open to the public. I believe we will be good to play for the next 4 or 5 weeks straight without interruption though.

It is sooooooooo cool. Nicer ice, nicer locker rooms, better lighting, better benches, you name it. Our rink in Fairview Heights was expensive to build but has been managed and maintained poorly so this is a big step up.

Side note, we redraft our teams every new session (about three months long) and I have been with different coaches the last three times. I am a bit of a journeyman, lol. I somehow managed to be on championship teams the last two times and this team is looking like it will win the Scott Keg trophy. It is going to be so cool to lift the keg three sessions in a row and in a professional arena! (our trophy is made out of a full sized keg and a steel salad bowl in the image of the Stanley Cup)
