Other than that, I don't particularly like documentaries like "The War" because to tackle the ocean of a topic that is WWII, I've found the films that seem to do it best focus and dissect on a singular or just a couple aspects of it. To try and cover most or all of it, it's just spreading yourself too thin and you're bound to leave extremely important things out of it, whether due to being unaware or simply because of logistical reasons.

I like those too. But Ken Burns does good work.

If it's just a general "time-line" type thing, I'm sure it would show an interesting perspective or unique footage of key turning points.

Yeah, his specials re lengthy, but I'll probably DVR it and give it a shot.

Yeah I'm not necessarily saying he doesn't do good work (not a particular fan of his but that doesn't mean he's bad), and I've seen enough of it to know the footage collected is good. But in comparison to other films that look at it more detailed, more narrowly, it's sort of a waste. The length of the series is not really the problem, the scope of it is.If he used that time to focus on, say, the Manhattan Project alone, or just the Normandy Invasion alone, or just one major event, chances are it'd be great and extremely informative.

Why is anyone getting all sensitive about this either way? It's a MOVIE! A documentary is a movie. Some people will watch it and like it and some people won't, some people won't care that it's on. If this conversation was about another movie, say a stupid one, say a dance movie, like Step Up Revolution, would there be all this discussion and anger, sensitivity and bitching? Probably not.

Some things are important to some people, and not to others. Some people don't like movies about WWII and some people don't like movies about hangovers in Vegas. It's all art, which is subjective, even when it's based on "fact." Discussing the various merits of art/movies, etc. is one of the most interesting parts about it. So let's all just put on our big boy and big girl pants and discuss. Maybe people will even talk about this shit after they've seen the damn movie. I will not be one of those people, but obviously others will.

Guess who is in a bitchy mood?
