Anyone ever had your resume professionally written?

If so, how much did it cost ya and was it worth it?

My buddy did it about a month ago. He just got a new job a week ago so it worked out nice obviously. It cost him 120 bucks I think, somewhere in that neighborhood.

This was his second try to get a resume professionally done. He got scammed on the internet first. There's too many scams on the internet that offer professionally written resumes, he paid 70 bucks and got back a resume that had a bunch of spelling errors and looked like shit.

So, If I were you, I'd find a place in your area that does it and go to their offices....thats what he did the second time.

Thanks for the response. I met with a local guy who has written more than 13,000 resumes but he charges $250. He insists it is worth it.

You don't get away with charging $250 13,000 times if your product doesn't get results.

That's true. I'd look around to see if there's something a little cheaper first but if nothing looks as good as what this guy is offering then definitely spend the 250, it'll pay off man

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Bears
when im hiring i can tell in about 10 secs if the individual did it himself or had a pro do it.

Ya, I'm trying to decipher if you think this is a good or a bad thing. I can see both sides of it.

That can't possibly be a negative can it?

Wouldn't the fact that you are willing to invest in your resume show that you are serious about you're career?

Professionally written resume > poorly written resume

Honest resume > professionally written resume

A professionally written resume doesn't necessarily mean its dishonest IMO.

Lots of times its bent though.

Maybe so. I really don't know but this guy doesn't give you the finished product until you approve everything.

I've heard of shittier resume services that give you the finished product and if you don't like it you have to pay again.

Then he's probably worth working with.

Yeah... I know he's obviously trying to sell me his product but from the samples he showed me of clients with comparable education, industry goals, and experience i was blown away at how badly my resume would lose to that person.

Thanks. Ill consider it. The only drawback of that is that I am pretty set on going with someone locally. I want to be able to meet face to face.

Were you able to get a good number of interviews with the resume your mother-in-law wrote for you?

OK, yes we're in the Chicago area.

I have gotten jobs/interviews with her resume help. Lately it's been tough but I don't think it's my resume.

I think it helps to have a pro write up your resume. they should know what companies are looking for, especially the keywords taht get you past the evil HR computers.
