If the Cubs are not ready to contend next year, why not?

Who says the Cubs aren't ready to contend next year?

Neither. Realistically neither one will come to this shitty organization unless they are just about the money.

Give it up. face the facts. Cubs will only get cheap free agents. I have realized that and so should everyone else. Signing one of these guys is just a pipe dream at this point

Time to wake up and smell the shittyness that is the Cubs organization. Sorry folks just the truth

Shitty Organization? What constitutes a shitty organization?

Okay, I'm ready to face some facts. Except you didn't post any. You have realized we will only get cheap FA's based off of? We should realize this because? Signing either one of these is a pipe dream because? I think all these can be answered with this: The Cubs have 50 million dollars coming off the books.

I don't smell shittyness and I don't see anything backing up your point, therefore I don't think it is the truth.

I don't see that having any affect on the matter. I know for sure that that is not near the top of their of priorities.

Just going off what I see on the field. Unless there is a massive overhaul (and without trades we will not get one) there is no chance.

Without trades, we have one OF spot, 1B and 3B. Rammy will be the best 3B on the market so he might be brought back. And Pena or worse might be our 1B next year.

Where is the massive overhaul?

We don't need a massive overhaul though. That's the point.

Soriano, Ramirez, Soto, Castro, BJax, Byrd us kinda what we're looking at. Although I think we will get another OFer. Still, we are in decent shape. Bring in Fielder & a 2B & we are in pretty good shape.

That could work, but it all depends on Soriano being the player we signed and not the shell he has turned into. Soto also needs to revert back to his rookie form and Rammy can not wait until June to start playing.

A lot of IFs in there, but bringing in a good 2B and Fielder and we could contend.

Obviously Albert. But I voted Fielder, because it makes more sense to pay 5M less per year for Prince and dole that out to help us in other areas.

I mentioned in another thread, but if I can only get one 15 million+ player this offseason then the guy I want is CJ Wilson. The difference between CJ Wilson and the fifth starters that the Cubs have been trotting out there is far greater than the difference between Fielder and Pena. Adding Wilson will have a trickle down effect of being able to monitor Cashner's workload in the minors while allowing him to be, as we found out this year, very important 6th starter. The increase an innings that Wilson would bring would also make the bullpen a lot better since its workload would go down.

Fielder is who they go after, him and a pitcher is what the cubs need most right away. Also could look for a second basemen. I dont think the cubs are really close to contending, but if they make these moves they are closer.
