Putting my dog to sleep.

So I finally made the call to the vet and scheduled an appointment to put my dog to sleep tomorrow. Most fucked up call I've ever made, setting an appointment to kill my buddy. I feel like I'm betraying her but I just want her pain to stop. She can't walk anymore and I feel the tumors everywhere growing. This is gonna be tough.

There is no pain worse than that from killing someone you love, no matter how many times you tell yourself "it's for the best," "that's life," and all the other cliche phrases one uses to justify the right choice. My heart is still heavy from pets lost and one I know will be gone soon.

This might piss some of you off but it is what it is.
My Dad is old school. He's put down many pets.
When the time comes he takes some bacon and walks out on his ranch.
He acts like it's just an every day walk on his property.
He sits in the grass on some calm rolling hill and pets his friend and gives him some bacon.
After that they relax and enjoy the breeze until the dog falls asleep.
Then my Dad uses a small calibur hand gun.
He digs the grave on his property alone and marks it.
I asked him once why he does that...
He said going somewhere odd would work him up...
I make sure it's just a nice day together with a little treat and a nap...
He said I know when he's had enough pain.
A friend always knows...
To this day he tends the graves.

Well, we did the deed tonight. I miss my friend a lot, but it was quick and seemed painless. The vet thought we were doing it at the right time.
