If you are the new guy on your team it's your duty to fit in with the team's culture (unless it's a horrible, horrible one).
I've had a guy do this exact thing, fortunately it was only a one day thing where we had to go and listen to Oracle try to sell us over priced garbage for about 10 hours, but at least there was free (and good) lunch.

Wrong to hate him? Absolutely not. He seems to be committed to career suicide already, and clearly doesn't know any better. I've been a supervisor and more often had a supervisor - and have had folks go over my head. To HR even, but that is another amusing story. However I always recognized the chain of command unless I had a damn good reason. He goes above his boss, why should he hesitate to stab you in the back at some future point? Hmmmm....

in 7th grade some kid dumped like half a bottle of visine in our teacher's coffee. at first he said he'd only do a simple pour but he dumped like half the bottle. so the class was like "oh shit man a half bottle can kill her." We were like 12 so we didn't know what it could do we just knew it said call poison control if drinken. so she was absent for the next 3 days. we all thought she died. turned out to be just a bad case of the runs.
Btw the kid that did it never got caught but he did end up in military school that year all the way thru high school.

I hate this shit. I had a management position once, that I worked at for over 5 years. I basically ran the side of the business I was on with a free hand. We were doing so well, that the 2nd owner who was hardly ever there decided we should hire a co-manager to reduce my workload from 12 hrs/day to 8 or 10 while we grew even more. The co-manager was one of those people who would phone and e-mail the owner behind my back with ideas for change, and would "work" 12-14 hours per day to brown nose.
I resigned after a month. The co-manager was fired after 2 months and the side of the business I ran was sold about 6 months later.
I will never work for anybody ever again.
I suggest murder.
