As of this morning the official ballots went to the printer without his name appearing on it. If he expects to appeal and get the ballot re-printed he's going to need to expidite it. I'm hoping he's screwed.
The state Supreme Court on Tuesday granted a stay on Monday's appeals court ruling that held Emanuel was ineligible to be a mayoral candidate and ordered that any ballots printed include his name while the case is pending.
In the 24-page brief seeking the emergency stay Emanuel's lawyers argue, "The decision below squarely conflicts with other appellate rulings addressing candidate residency requirements" and contend the lower court "was unable to find a single appellate decision supporting its novel legal standard."
At issue in Monday's ruling is what the term "resided in" in the state provision means. Emanuel's lawyers argue that phrase should not be assigned the same meaning as "lived in." Instead, Emanuel's lawyers say, the fact that President Obama's former chief of staff has maintained a residence in the city for the past two years is enough to satisfy the requirement.
The Illinois Supreme Court has ordered a halting of the ballots being printed until it can review the case.
Money on the politically connected winning their point. I don't agree with but the stakes are high and
their is way too much power to be lost if Rahm does not get his way. Chicago politics has a full court
press in Springfield.
I agree. And to my previous points, I think I want Rahm to win, because if anyone knows how to railroad federal money into Chicago it will be him.
Not that you are wrong but I F'n hate that. I hate it that people will elect the scum of the earth because
of WIFM. It is also the reason why we do not see any honest, trusting and legitimate candidates for Mayor
or should I say Governor of Chicago. It is what most passionately hate about politics in our state and yet
they will elect for the reasons you mentioned. Not to mention the party of entitlements would never relinquish
Chicago and from an outsiders viewpoint as a whole I like the changes that have happened in Chicago over the last 3 decades. You only need to look around the UC to know what I mean or visit Navy Pier.
Yeah, just because I said it doesn't mean I like it either, but if Obama is going to be shoveling out money like coal in a furnance, I want a guy who can at least get a fair share of it to ease the pain of the hot poker the state is shoving up our hind ends. I've only lived here about 6 years now, so I don't really know it from before, but other than all the corruption, I'd say it's a pretty nice place.
By the way what is WIFM? I'm not getting it sorry.
What's in it for me.
Ahh got it, that makes sense. But the WIFM is also the same reason why people run for office.
I don't get what you don't like about him Chris? Is this another 'we hate Pelosi, but we don't really know why' thing?
If I was voting (not a city resident) I would cringe like a mothafucka at the other three big names.
