We need Aram to help bring in Fielder. He won't come in when it's just him and castro. If Ramirez stays thats a great 3&4 hitters that you can sell to Fielder. Then with Castro and possibly Jackson in front of those two. Hendry has to start setting up the team to make it appealing.

Agreed 100%

Wilson has put a 3.16 ERA so far this season with over 8 K/9 and a K/BB ratio close to 3 to 1. If he isn't an ace, he is about as close to being one without being it. The guy isn't Cliff Lee or Halladay, but he is been pretty special as a starter. Speaking of which that is part of what makes him unique. He is going to be 31 next year, but his arm has a lot less miles on it then most other starters since this is his second season of starting.

Im assuming Cubs would have to overpay for him big time to cause TEX will want to keep him for how well he doing in that hitters ball park

He is better than everybody expect Garza on the team. That would be sweet if we could have Garza, Wilson, Dempster, Cashner(hopefully), and then Zambrano maybe?

Im assuming Z will be around. Cashner would be the guy that i would like to see pitch for whole year. I went to his only start this year and was really impressed. Hope his injury doesnt effect his stuff

Texas will want to keep him and he is likely to be the best SP on the market. So yes we are going to have to pay a lot, but the market for SP after the Zito has really leveled off to being 5 year max deals. I could see him in the range of Zambrano consider Cliff Lee got 5 years/120 million and everyone acknowledges that Cliff Lee is much better.

My plan would be to have Z and Wells as the fourth and fifth. Cashner would be the first guy up in case of injury. The Cubs are really, really going to have to be careful with his workload, and you really can't do that at the big league level. That is also why I think Wilson is more important than Fielder. It pushes Cashner down to the sixth starter of this team and when injuries happen then it won't be so catastrophic.

Because he has had success and is still cheap. If he sucks again next year, you have a few options to replace him (Cashner). If he pitches well, then you have a relatively cheap backend of the rotation starter for a couple more seasons which allows you to go out for one of the top starters in the 2013 crop of FA pitchers which is way better than this group coming up.

Certainly possible that a number of the big names won't reach the FA market, but I don't think it hurts the team to position themselves for that. I guess I don't see the downside to give Wells a few turns through the rotation next year to see if he can right himself because the potential upside of having another cost controlled starter is so huge.

I have seen enough of him that i just dont think he a good MLB pitcher. To me he shouldnt be a SP on a WINNING team. Yes for a shitty team he eats innings but for a playoff team he shouldnt be part of rotation

So he isn't a good starter because you say so? Is that correct? Cause that's what I'm getting out of this

CO you really need to get out of 2007-2009. That team is gone. Wells' numbers have declined after an average year at best. Granted he had injuries this season, but that doesn't eliminate the fact that almost every start he has an inning where he allows 3+ ER.

I'm still waiting to see what the harm is to see if he can right himself at the end of this year and beginning of next year.

There's no harm, I'm just commenting on the general nature of his posts.

I would like to see Wells be a starter, but if the Cubs can get someone better for a relative bargain, I'd be happy.

I guess that is the issue. I don't see another bargain out there and would rather the Cubs spend money on a top end pitcher because we aren't really developing top of the rotation starters with the guys closest in the minors. So hopefully Wells get at least to what he was last year which is a better than average fifth starter.

Teams would take him. He's saying that because he hasn't been approach with a trade yet. Because...JH is not shopping him and taking offers.
