I think the whole point of these write ups is "obscure" and "forgotten" bears and not the same heroes we all know.

I enjoy this series and would not need a Walter Payton or even his backup Neal Anderson.

And last, emmitt smith???? The guy is the NFL's all time leading rusher! "Not saying much" what?

Barry Word wouldve become the NFLs all time leading rusher behind that Cowboys o-line.

I agree 100 % with regards to that online and I hated smith breaking Walter's record. But smith was good. I'd put him top 5 all time. And even if you only argued he never got hurt, itd still be viable IMO for a top 5.

Barry Sanders
Walter Payton
Jim Brown
Emmitt Smith
Ladainian Tomlinson

How on Earth is Neal Anderson a "random Bear"?

A great line was part of it but Emmitt was a great runner. He had the cut in the hole and make the guy coming up miss thing going big time. His OL only had to stay on a body and he could do the rest. Great about his lanes, stiff arms and leverage. Lots stronger than most expected and as fast in gear as shorts. Not a burner but somehow never got caught due to good angles and quick acceleration.

Word didn't have Emmitt's durability. You could never get a clean shot on Emmitt, whereas Word would plod up the middle taking hit after hit. Barry Word had 4 seasons of 100+ carries, and his YPC went from 5.0, 4.3, 3.7, 3.2. Probably would have been hard for Word to surpass Payton's all-time total when after a few more seasons he'd be averaging 1.9 yards per attempt.

These lists are tough and hard to leave out guys like Campbell, Peterson and Sayers. All as good as it gets in their prime.
