Not that I care about him being dfa'd, but who takes his spot in the rotation? Is Dempster close to returning?

Kind of surprise (not really...), but I take it he has no options. So ... who takes spot in rotation? Casey Coleman, Chris Colstad, Rusin?

I guess the easiest thing to do would be bring Volstad up. Otherwise they would have to clear room on the 40 man. Please leave Coleman in the pen.

Wells is DFA and will be taken off the 40-man roster, so Rusin could be called up. Dolis is already in the 40-man.

He always will be a guy who will be picked up by bad teams to try and eat innings. Once the league figured him out he didnt make any adjustments

Cubs' intent is to keep Wells. But needed to clear a 40-man spot for Soler's contract getting finalized next few days.

They can skip that spot in rotation next time around and then Demp should be ready

Dempster was put on the 15-day DL on the 18th, retroactive to the 16th. He can't come back until July 8.

Spot on. He has decent enough stuff to keep teams interested as a back-end innings eater in the rotation. He just never adjusted once the league figured hi out after his rookie season.

It looks like it's a move to put Soler on the 40-man. I'd have to think that with Soler needing a spot on the 40-man, with Dolis coming up to take Wells' spot on the active roster, and Coleman already being on the active roster.... it's Coleman that will be moved to the rotation, then sent back to Iowa once Demp comes back.

If that is what they were going to do, they would have brought him up rather than Dolis.

He was optioned already this year, so he has that option. This is a make room on the 40-man roster. Probably for Soler... but it could also be a sign of an impending trade.

He did have to pass through optional waivers. I don't remember if he passes once that means he can optioned freely the entire year or not though.
