Watched Straight Outta Compton (extended cut) and Deadpool.
Both were very good. SOC was pretty decent, but I sort of wish that the film covered more of the breakup of NWA and how really nasty it got between Dre, Cube and Eazy.
It touched upon it, but I remember how bad it got. 8/10

Deadpool was just plain funny and entertaining. The right way to do an R rated superhero film, and I found myself laughing out loud many times. I'd watch both again. 8/10.

Agree regarding Deadpool. I saw it twice in the theater and got the DVD. Probably have watched it 7 times now. Best comic to screen adaptation to date IMO.

Finally rented and watched Star Wars: The Force Awakens. 4 out of 5 stars

Very entertaining.

-Harrison Ford stole the show. Almost forgot how much I loved Han Solo as a movie character.

-At times the movie got a little campy/too comedic for me. I wasn't crazy about some of the writing.

-Loved the first parts of the movie. Felt raw, real, dirty/dusty. really brought back good memories from A New Hope. I know some people complained about the parallel story line, and at times I can see why, but in some ways it makes a lot of sense. The movie is kind of based around The First Order idolizing the old Empire so it makes sense they would attempt a similar super weapon etc

-Very interested to see what they do with the Rey origin story. Is she related to Ben Kenobi? The Skywalkers?

-For me Rey started picking up the Force a bit too much/easily and it wasn't built on early in the film enough for me to have her start mind tricking people and pwning Ren but I like the idea.

-The movie felt confused at times at what it was trying to be. Was it trying to be a "kids movie" and rebooting it for a new generation?(This would explain some painful comedy attempt moments and awkward writing like when Rey and Finn come together after they steal the Falcon and have the "OMG, how'd we do that exchange" or was it trying to be an extension of the gritty New Hope/Empire Strike Back? Explained with Solo's death, the opening scenes, the traumatic flashbacks, the final sabre dual etc. It tried to be both. For me, obviously, I didn't enjoy the kid aimed parts but really liked the New Hope/Empire extension angles.

- This movie was infinitely better than all the other Prequel trilogy movies.

I hated everything about it including the Mary Sue Rey character.

Just saw the Water Diviner on HBO today. I really enjoyed it because I am a big Russell Crowe fan. Very interesting story line about an Australian farmer searching in Turkey for his sons bodies after WWI. His "love interest" looked like a younger Demi Moore and that was pretty okay with me.

Saw the new Star Trek yesterday. 6 outa 10. Entertaining and worth seeing if you're a Trekie. But certainly not up to Wrath Of Khan standards.

Prime Demi Moore blows that Olga broad out of the water.

The way that they had Olga made up in that movie she could have been Demi's little sister. She played a young Turkish widow.

Just watched 'Terminator: Genisys.'

Against better judgement (ha) I actually enjoyed it. It did a neat job of paying homage to the T1 & T2, without using that as a cheap plot device to gloss over unoriginal material. Even Dr. Who (Matt Smith) made an appearance as a future terminator. Certain this was a tongue-in-cheek joke. Arnold's one liners were golden, as were J.K. Simmons's.

However, casting was terrible. One would think future soldiers was look look scrawny and weathered (Michael Biehn from the original), not 'roided up and dumb like Jai Courtney. I could at least see similarities between Linda Hamilton and Emily Clarke. The dialogue got really mundane and juvenile in several spots. Kind of felt like pandering to the tweener crowd. Lastly, the plot was very convoluted and difficult to follow. Once I stopped paying attention and just chalked up my confusion to time travel just messing things the movie was much easier to watch.

Oh well. Expected nothing and got a pleasant surprise.

3.5/5

ps, I have come to the conclusion Microsoft or Google will bring about Skynet in our world.

Wife and I just got back. We went with a couple of friends who are about as liberal as it gets. They really knew nothing about the history of the Democratic Party origins and their history and I confess, I didn't know some of it either. I definitely didn't know about Saul Alynski and his mob ties. I did know that he was Hilary's mentor, though.
