So, I know everyone wants Matt Nagy fired (I don't disagree, even if I am getting into it with people over the playcalling of the last packers game), and some also want Ryan Pace fired, but from what has been reported by Rappaport and others, it looks like Nagy and Pace are safe - at least for one more season.

But remember what David Kaplan said on ESPN earlier this year?

“I got a text from a good friend who’s wildly connected in that building known as Halas Hall. You know what he said to me? I’m gonna throw it out there. I’m not gonna throw his name out there, but this guy has given me tips before. He texted me and said: “You didn’t get this from me, don’t be shocked if Ted Phillips announces he’s retiring at the end of the season.” Not reporting it’s a done deal, I’m just telling you that someone who’s been a reliable source to me said he believes Ted might retire.

So yeah, one off quote, could be total bullshit.

Except another person who is pretty plugged-in to the Bears, Adam Hoge, just posted this in this article today:

I would still consider bringing in a new football savvy team president to oversee the organization and make sure the next stab at a franchise quarterback leads to better results. That may lead to one more year of Ryan Pace and Matt Nagy or it may not, but as much as some fans don’t want to accept it, giving a 42-year-old head coach with a 28-21 record and zero losing seasons another chance is warranted.

I think Hoge knows something. perhaps confirmed what Kaplan said internally, and added that part to sound smart and prescient.

I think this qualifies as legit smoke.

I think Ted is retiring at the end of the season or some time between now and the Superbowl, and the Bears will hire a new Team President. Pace and Nagy get a year to be evaluated.

Buckle up.

Nothing is going to change. And then nothing is going to change. IE we're going to be a mediocre to garbage team next year, too.

I'm watching the fucking Browns next season. Fuck this garbage organization.

I mean, you do have history on your side, but nothing changes....until it does.

Nothing changes under the Wirtz's ....until Rocky took over.

Nothing changes with the Cubs.....until they brought in Theo.

Nothing changes with the Bears.... until something does.

That said, betting odds are on your side lol.

what good is firing ted phillips going to do? I dont care either way but he doesnt make football decisions.

It allows you the freedom to bring in a Team President who WOULD be qualified to make football decisions, and decide the direction of the franchise.

He did at point. The best thing that can happen is he is let go, retired, stuffed in a suitcase.. who cares. They need a new president to get a handle on what this GM is doing.

Yeah, I've been saying that too. If he's not involved with football decisions, then the decision to retain or fire him couldn't be less relevant.

it allows a football man to hire to the football guys. let ted run the business side, because that’s ultimately what he is.

he hired ryan pace and every GM before him since he took the role of president. it’s clear he shouldn’t hire another GM for this franchise.

Who gives a shit about Ted philips. His departure would do nothing for the team
i disagree. somebody new needs to hire the next GM. preferably, somebody with a football back ground. i’m sure WFT fans said the same thing before they hired the new team president too.

Yea..believe it or not, Nagy has 2 playoff appearances in 3 years. So again, I'm not surprised that he isn't fired. Pace not being fired, kinda surprises me because there's a chance he's picking the next rookie QB. Makes me wonder, do you think the Bears go all in on Wentz? At this point, I think he might be the only person who can run Nagy's offense.

I don’t think Pace is going anywhere. Hell if they fire teddy, the Mccaskeys will probably promote Pace
