Rise Against - a Chicago band formed in 1999- I'm not a musical highbrow but these guys are one of my favorite bands in the last 10 years. I may not always agree with their message but at least they take a stance on things and make their music about something.

I like Causa Sui.

I've downloaded (pirated) movie soundtracks from a composer named Clint Mansell, who did soundtracks for the movies "Requiem for a Dream", "The Fountain", "PI" and some others. These make for good ambient music IMO. This is one of the pieces he did for PI (I'm not sure of the year on this one)

Here's something really new for you and local (Chicago) to boot. Debut album came out last summer, but I'm loving the new album they just released earlier this month.

Pink Frost. The new album is called Sundowning.

They remind me a lot of what Smashing Pumpkins were doing early in their career before they decided to suck instead.
