Scareface already was a remake? You do realize that one right?

I heard looking stuff up a few weeks ago that David Hasslehoff has been trying to remake Gone With the Wind... One of those old classics. I've never fully watched it before but if they touch that which for years was deemed untouchable to be remade in film form. That opens up the floor to everything and anything

Dune isn't a classic... Dune was a flop and they botched the movie. It's got a following but it never made much money nor followed the source closely so it's been in poor light to a lot more people than positive light.

Some of these so-called remakes are just proprietary franchises with continuations. I have no problem with rebooting a franchise. I don't like when a remake is made with the intention of modernizing the same script. I didn't like The Karate Kid, Clash of the Titans, Arthur, The Longest Yard, Footloose, The Italian Job, Planet of the Apes.

Nightmare on Elmstreet is considered a remake, but I see it more as a reboot, where Robert Englund couldn't just carry on another 3-6 sequels because of his age. TMNT is just a reboot too, and yes, I cringe at Michael Bay too.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory(while I know there are differences, the truth be told, Dahl did write the screenplay adaptation for the most part, making Willy Wonka as good of a segue as it gets from book to motion pictures). I think this was an example of why one great artist, can't just pick up another great artists work, and expect the same classic. I think they know this, to some extent, making me believe that even the most "artistic" of filmmakers are just sell-outs trying to make a buck, rather than be creative and truly original.

I also seen a lot of the risk assessments from Hollywood's perspective, a symptom of the economy. When they have to spend so much money, and make so much money to recover losses, using a franchise with die-hard fanbases is just smart business. Even though most of the movies will be shitty and potentially destroy the good names that they are taking over.

Dune was dropped by Paramount, so it's shelved too for the foreseeable future.

That's too bad, of those potential remake movies, Dune was the only one that made sense, because the original was a chopped up mess and because our CGI technology has come a loooong way.
