Since that would mean we are the only Original Six team in the Western Conference, that would really suck. Though for the chances of the Blackhawks, it can only help their seeding to have a consistent winner moved out of the Conferences. Still I am with you in hating the thought of only getting to play Detroit once a year.

not really rivals anymore. these are both finesse teams, the blood shed has been gone for a long time now.

  2. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Fire
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Chicago State Cougars
  2. DePaul Blue Demons
  3. Illinois-Chicago Flames

Good... sucks to end a rivalry but all it does is move us up in standings.

Ever since the Hawks became good again, I've hated Detroit less and less. They were fun to hate when the regular season games against them were as close to playoff hockey as the Hawks would get, but that feeling has obviously drifted.

Cleary dropping Kane and Krownwall destroying Havlat were the last two times I really had any feelings of anger toward the Red Wings. Seabrook flipping Cleary over the boards on the first 2 minutes of the Winter Classic was an awesome moment.

That said, there is a lot of history between the teams and the games are almost always good when they do meet so it will be a bummer to miss out on that if the report is true.

edit:

At the 2:55 mark- Seabrook's hit on Cleary

Being the only Original 6 team in the Western Conference would be weird plus losing a rival in the process would be a bad move for the NHL. The Hawks and Wings will always be rivals. Chicago-Detroit is a natural rivalry and breaking them up wouldn't be right IMO.

As a Wings fan while I'd hate losing Chicago, I'll take that if we're going to gain the other four Original Six franchises in the conference. A buddy emailed me that the rumored division would be the Wings, Toronto, Montreal, Boston, Pittsburgh and Buffalo. Deciding between that and Chicago, Columbus, Nashville and St. Louis is a no-brainer.

When Montreal and Toronto were in town this year, the rink was electric. That's how it should be more times than not and with the division the Wings have been in there's not much excitement in watching Columbus on a Tuesday in January.

That would be a hell of division. Both in terms of stacked teams and historic rivalaries. Toronto would be more screwed than it already is.

If it means we have to play Detroit less, I'm all for it. They have won something ridiculous, like 10 out of the last 11, division titles.

Whoop-de-doo.

I'm a Hawks fan, through and through, but we have nothing to brag about compared to Detroit.

I know I was kidding mostly, but we have won the Cup more recently as well. So that is two things...

No doubt.. but having a better, more elite franchise leave your division, let alone your conference is a beautiful thing, IMO :)

I really think that the Blackhawks and Predators will become a pretty big rivalry. Every time these two teams play it's nothing but entertaining. Hopefully the 'Hawks can be more physical with them now that they added some toughness.

Not to mention that the Blues vs Hawks is ALWAYS entertaining.

Of course there is the Hawks vs Vancouver as well.

You could make an argument that almost every Central Division game is interesting. The 'Hawks are (or now) were in, at least, the top two toughest division.

We still have to play in that tough division for one more season though.

I'm not gonna worry about anything until the NHL makes it official. Like the article said, nothing is set in stone yet. Hopefully they'll move Columbus to the Eastern Conference instead.
