And/or read the book.
<

HAha, yes but when dealing with the general public, it's easier to mandate them watching a movie than read a book. I bet more people in the US say Avatar than have read the bible... haha

I've never served but I've watched several war docs, that one to me in my estimation portrayed what it is REALLY like the in a war zone the best of all the docs I've seen.

P.S. I want to throw out there that I am not claiming to be an expert or anything of the sort since I watched some war docs.

I think the reason for that is most other documentaries either feature re-enactments, or just faceless combat footage. This actually followed the same group of guys around for their entire deployment its on much more of a personal level.

Great movie, kept me on the edge of my seat. Is there any acting that can compare to what happens in real life and how we deal/ react to it.

Sad to hear of the directors loss as well as a photographer that was with him documenting the struggles in Libya. I had read that several other photographers were hit as well but survived. I think they said it was a mortar attack by Libyan forces.

I liked their film alot and all, but thats why if you are a civilian you don't go to a war zone if you have the choice. I would have considered myself lucky I didnt die in afghanistan and call it a day. Then you switch over to embedding yourself with a buncha yahoo's in rags bare feet and 50 year old assault rifles.

I have about as much pity on them as I do that tool box that starved to death in alaska. Or that dumbass girl that got her arm eaten by a shark and decides to continue surfing in the ocean....where sharks live...

Some people have no fuckin brains.

no it wasn't. If your passion is playing with death don't be fucking surprised when death wins.

Those three people I mentioned their mishaps were easily avoidable. Don't jump in water full of 2 ton beasts with 10,000 teeth that want to have you for lunch. Especially after you already got your arm bit off once and clearly didnt learn your fucking lesson and everyone calls you an inspiration, until jaws fucking finishes the job. Don't go to a warzone if you can help it, and dont try to live in the wilderness by yourself.

Do you realize the extremely small odds of being attacked by a shark? That's like saying someone shouldn't drive again because the got in a car accident (which in some cases that does happen because persons are too traumatized to do drive).

I think Hetherington knew full well that death was a real possibility. I don't think they would want any pity. He knew what he was getting himself into, and I'm sure he felt the risk was worth it to be able to bring the story to everyone.

I have to drive, I have no choice, unless I want to walk 20 miles to and from work. As is the case with most people i think. I do not find myself, however, in a situation I need to jump in the ocean with man eating predators. Two completely different situations.
