This came up yesterday as I was pondering the Stranger Things season 3 finale and considered... what if I could rewatch the entire series for the first time?

Imagine some amnesia tech allows you to erase your memory of a particular movie/show (series)....

If you had to pick 1 thing, what would it be?

I got into thinking of many options, but found it really difficult to decide on a single top option.

Some ones thrown out by people I asked:

Lost
Harry Potter
LOTR
Game of Thrones (would be easy if not for that horrid ending)
Jurassic Park

I READ THE HARRY POTTER BOOKS BEFORE WATCHING THE MOVIES SO THAT WOULDNT WORK FOR ME, MILLENIAL...

The Simpsons

Probably the best television comedy of my lifetime, but all the best episodes have been aired literally thousands of times and lost their shine. Would love to see the first dozen seasons completely fresh...even if they may seem a little dated.

I'm in sorts doing that with Twilight Zone. I'm sure I've seen many of the episodes, but I have almost no recollection of them. Introducing them to my eldest is a lot of enjoyment as well.

Hmm. Good question. In addition to Lost:

- The Sopranos
- The Wire
- Battlestar Galactica
- Breaking Bad

Edit> I misread the original post, and missed needing to narrow it down to one. I need to think about that more.

I was going to say The Simpsons as well especially since those first 10 years or so were fantastic. I'd add Breaking Bad and LOST.

People are welcome to list stuff, but I find it really difficult to pick a single one so I figured I would pose it.

for me, it would have to be any one of the 6 movies my parents owned and played on repeat (because they owned them) on laserDisc repeat while I was 1-4: Das Boot, Deerhunter, Ordinary People, 2001, Electric Horseman, or Papillon. Needless to say, any and/or all of those movies shaped my outlook on life.

For the movie category, I'd probably go w/ The Matrix. I remember being blown away the first time I saw that.

The movie Signs would be a good "first" rewatch.... I remember being on the edge of my seat the first time I saw it.

Psycho. It’s been spoofed and parodied so many times that I basically knew all of the twists. It’s still an excellent movie but I’d love to watch that movie with no prior knowledge. Even better if I could have watched it in the early 60s when
killing off the main star halfway through the movie
was unheard of.

I'll be honest, I don't understand the Sitcom or stuff like Simpsons/Family Guy as something you would pick above everything else to rewatch for the first time.

These are procedural shows where each episode is typically built on a template, is there a ton of surprise value in rewatching shows like these for the first time?

If anything rewatching stuff like that with hindsight is funnier.... much of the Futurama humor gets funnier the 2nd or 3rd time I watch it.

I don't see the value myself.

Fury Road.
Loved the original mad max trilogy, was upset there was no Mel Gibson, But Hardy/Theron blew me away.

The story was great, the editing better, and direction the best.

The reason I would like to wipe it out and go again is because it exceeded my expectations so far beyond any movie I have wanted to see, and it would be great to feel that way again. Every minute just kept getting better.

Agree, Fury Road is in my top 5 all time.

I am going to add a secondary movie for a different set of criteria... the insane unexpected ending that came nowhere near the book.

The Mist.
I read that story (and all the others in skeleton crew) about a hundred times as a kid, and that was one of my faves in that book.

I watched the movie at home when it came on to on demand.
I sat there watching unimpressed and a little put off by the protagonist.
He wasnt a saint in the short story, but he wasnt an aswipe either.
I was thinking "oh hell, this is another one of the shitty adaptaions. bummer".

Then, the ending arrives and it breaks free of the short story in one of the most satisfying, unexpected, karma filled ending I could have ever hoped for... I was absolutely elated at the major change at the end and it gave perfect clarity as to why the protagonist was played the way he was. 20 stars out of 10 for that.
