The Cubs, meanwhile, are following up with more interviews with candidates they continue to have interest in, according to sources — including San Diego Padres bench coach Rick Renteria and Padres assistant general manager A.J. Hinch scheduled in the coming days.
Renteria, 51, has also interviewed for the Seattle Mariners’ vacancy and appears to be the favorite to land the Cubs’ job, according to multiple industry sources.

they have to be counting on Lovullo to agree to manage. .
they better talk to him right after series ends before martinez and renteria accepts another spot in case he says no or offered a better job

Finalists according to Tom Loxas are Renteria, Hinch, Wedge and Lovullo.

Well I would be for Lovullo at this point. The bright side for Wedge is the autographed baseball I have of his would increase in value when we win the WS next year :)

Lovullo or bust?

Honestly, I still think my preference is still Martinez...but I'm happy w/ he or Lovullo either one. Just, no Acta, no Hinch...

From the looks of it, Acta and Martinez are out.

Hinch and Wedge not likely.

Renteria or Lovullo are the likely guys to be named manager.

I think they're leaning to heavily on current padres and Sox personnel. Kind of annoying.

I would expect another candidate to arise after the WS. I had said a while back that my gut feeling was going to be Renteria and I am not swaying from that.

I just feel another hat will be tossed into the ring before it's all said and done. Again, just a hunch.

I believe there is still one mystery candidate that we don't know of.
