Well the Cubs got around 50 million in tv revenue last season. The Angels just signed a deal that nets them 150 million dollars in tv revenue. I think a 100 million extra dollars in tv revenue would help increase the budget for major league payroll a fair bit.

Ricketts prolly pocket money. Honestly name me one thing Ricketts has done to show he running BIG MARKET TEAM? I can give you list of things he done to pocket money

Prying two current MLB GMs to be in charge of his front office? Spending more on amateur talent acquistion than in any previous point in Cubs history?

Hired Theo Epstein away from Boston. Posted bid for Dravish. In on Fielder.

I don't like Ricketts, and I don't believe he has the resources to compete right now, but he's got to make money to spend money.

If you don't have the money to spend on the roster do not buy one of the most expensive franchises in baseball...

When he paid Theo and spent in the draft last year I felt pretty good about his willingness to open the checkbook.

I think this is all up to Theo and I think he knows what he's doing.

Think about it. Cheapest way to build team is through draft. Top front office guys are ALOT cheaper then proven All Stars on the market. Both things you posted Ricketts actually doing it the CHEAP way.

Sources can say what they want but till he actually signs someone worth a crap its hard to believe. Sorry but signing a bad hitting RF trading for a .158 hitting 3B is nothing to brag about. Losing a top hitting 3B and having no middle of order is a joke. Sorry but Ricketts biggest piece he has added in 3 years is a GM making 20 mil for 5 years. He had done NOTHING to show he cares about winning. 103 years is a joke and all we keep hearing is about long term. **** that, Cubs fans been waiting long term more then anyone can ask for. Trying to rebild through draft will be even harder with new CBA. So that extra cash that was suppose to go to draft went where? Not MLB roster like other BIG MARKETS!!

The Angels just signed Pujols and Wilson because of a new TV deal..

Whomever your "baseball people" are must have tiny brains.

The real fact is that the tribune left us with a dinosaur financially.. The trib had offers around 20 years ago to buy 3/4 of the lots around the park. They didn't do it.

So there's a difference between the business side and the baseball side. The thing is we have to maximize our profits to increase our payroll. Hence why once our tv contract is done look for a Cubs Network. The Yankees Network basically pays by itself for the baseball payroll every year.

We have to run a business alongside the baseball ops. That's how you build a franchise and a company at the same time.

It's called doing it the right way. Not saying we aren't going to come out and spend cash of Fielder, Darvish.. etc cause it makes more than perfect sense roster-wise to get Prince.

The way you build for continued success is through the system. That's how you can either do a complete build or make means of acquiring VIA trade.

I'm seriously to the point of telling you to shut the eff up. It's not hard to see what we're doing here.

SO JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN TYPE IN ALL CAPS AND ***** THAT RICKETTS IS CHEAP. While the past two years of having a 100+ mill payroll makes you look like a Special person. Plus considering we're going to be right around 100 again.

Let alone if we win the bid for Darvish..that's 50+ out the door right away. Plus probably another 50+ on his contract.

Or Prince at 20-25 per year.

He's given Theo the authority to make big moves. If you can't make sense of it. Don't be a moron and keep posting shit that the truth proves otherwise.

Why are you surprised by this?

Guess what? Theo built the last few of these Boston teams through the draft too....and they were pretty damn good.

Then he signed some big salary guys as well. The same thing will happen in Chicago.

Saying Rickett's is cheap is laughable. He's been trying to spend $250 million dollars to upgrade Wrigley and the surroundings, while having one of the higher payrolls in baseball and paying his GM the second most money in the majors.

You need to get a grip on reality.

Ricketts spending is also handcuffed because he has no real way of shedding these dead weight contracts like Zambrano and Soriano. He's already sitting on top of a lot of bad paper thanks to the previous regime. This is going to be a 2-3 year process with Theo now to shed that and start running things more of the way Boston did.
