I'm not going to say anything on how cheap he is, until after this upcoming offseason.

Part of me wants to agree with you so bad. Just looking at the facts since he took over its hard to do. Puts a macroni & cheese statue in front of park (what a joke), puts up a huge Add in LF, cuts payroll by 10 mil, and raises ticket prices. So he makes money off the ads and statue, makes money off cutting salarly, makes money off ticket prices being raised, pro rates Pena contract, and borrowes money from Dempster to get another FA OF. All the facts tell you he just looking to make money off the Cubs and dont care if they win or not.

But yes your correct this offseason will show 100% what this guy plan really is with the Cubs. There is NO REASON they shouldnt be up where PHI and BOS payrolls. They have the same market as those two teams. If they do this could you imagine what type of offseason they could have :). Think how bad the 2006 team was and they went out and spent money and they were NLC division champs 2 times and prolly the best team in 2008. Yes it backfired with certain contracts but a big market can take the hit. Even BOS and PHI have bad contracts.

I'm gonna agree with a few of you.. Odds are there are going to be a few massive pieces available this off-season.. If we can grab one I'm fine if we don't try not going to be happy at all.

Alot of you are missing the boat here.

He is business, and business only. If you are going to take the "i met my wife in the bleachers" as a major sign that all he cares about is the cubs winning you need to go to business school and learn a few things.

I really thought Ricketts would make the Cubs a contender. I guess the whole, "I've been a fan my whole life" thing was just blowing smoke up the fans' behinds.

Is it just me, or does Chicago have the least competent owners in all of sports?

JR has 7 rings on his finger. not too shabby for an owner.

23. Tom Ricketts, Cubs: He told a Chicago reporter last week that "I can't stand it when I hear someone say they can't afford to go to a game. It might be hard to get tickets for a Yankees or Sox game, but there's no reason why they can't afford to go to another game." It must be nice to be so detached from the real world.

Open a newspaper you fucking Special person. Wow! that statement fucking pisses me off.

Hey if he wants to be straight business he picked the wrong team. His whole walking around the ballpark and chatting with fans spiel wont be so pleasant if he doesn't spend money on players after a few years.

just being real

yeah to a point i guess..

still pretty early to completely judge the guy at least in my opinion..

If he never puts the foot down to try and get some guys.. then yeah Im not happy at all..

but if the Cubs are generally successful and we win at least once.. he's God.

simple as that.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago White Sox
  2. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Fire
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Chicago State Cougars
  2. DePaul Blue Demons
  3. Illinois-Chicago Flames
  4. Loyola Ramblers
  5. Northern Illinois Huskies
  6. Northwestern Wildcats
This.

If he doesn't spend after this season we're screwed.

Meh. We have to spend at 1st base... but what else is there to spend on?

We will have starting pitching and relievers barring injury set.
We will need a 1st base.
2nd base and Shortstop are set.
Can't make a long-term commitment at 2rd if we still have faith in Vitters.
LF is unmovable.
CF is set with Jackson/Byrd.
RF is set if we still have faith in Colvin.

So he needs to spend big at one position, but not overall.

Ehh I think at this point Colvin is a back up option.

I think Cubs could use an ACE, 1B and RF....If they can fill these 3 positions in offseason they could contend next year very easily

1B is top priority
overall pitching depth is a complete and total need.. Fairly obvious when injuries occur.
3B depending on how we feel about Rami after the season could be upgradable.
Castillo as backup catcher would be fine.
OF is alright.. May or may not be time for Jackson..

An Ace is good to have, sure, but who do we kick out of the rotation? Wells?

Byrd will probably still be in CF, and BJax in RF.

Ramirez is so far 1-21 with RISP. Unless he really turns his shit around, these numbers basically speak for where he'll be next year. And it won't be the Cubs.
