I just hate the fucking corruption in all of it. The IOC has been exposed as the cretins that they are over and over again with the host cities poor getting screwed all around. Gumbel and company had an excellent expose of it all including videos of storm trooper cops beating the crap out of residents who did not want to leave their homes and the displaced people in droves ending up dying in the streets. In the meantime, hundreds of millions of dollars ending up in the hands of corrupt politicians and the IOC.

IN the meantime, there is the business of it all. Almost all of these athletes are professionals in one form or the other. A lot use performance enhancement drugs and a lot more sports get technological advantages all in the name of breaking records and adding to the "spectacle" of the games.

Everything is the spectacle, right? Tell the truth? I'd rather watch high school games in which young kids just play a sport in order to have fun and compete. IF you win, you win, and if you lose, you just shake the hands of the opponent and try to do better next time.

I do agree with what you're saying. The one thing that draws me in is the fitness level these athletes are at and the competition. Sadly some judges have unjustly ruined dreams due to their dis-honesty. Not all of the doping is detected but it never can or will be as that science seems to stay a step ahead of the testing.

Sure. But bad judges have existed since I started watching things. One of the worst things to me is the doping when you get down to actual competition. And I also get pissed at the technological shenanigans that go on in the interest of breaking records.

In short, I think that the Olympics ought to be eliminated entirely because it is no longer anywhere near what the original intent for them is. Let athletes compete for their schools and try and get a scholarship for their education if they are good enough. Then, if there is interest for people to come out and pay money to watch them or people who like the sport enough to watch it on television, then form a professional association and go for it. But let amateur sports be exactly that and eliminate the bullshit that the Olympics are anything more just another money making scam.

I love that the embossed eagle T-shirt brigade is raging over Gaby Douglas not putting her hand over her heart for the anthem.

Almost as amusing as the annual "war on Christmas" crisis.

The poor girl has issues. Obviously influenced by self-serving idiots.

Race walking is an Olympic sport...

:obama:

Don't hate bro. We made racewalking interesting because one of my fantasy football leagues essentially randomly selected a racewalker for each person based on their odds and our draft position was determined by order of finish. I got screwed though as I had ended up drafting 9th.

Glad to see Hope Solo is still gonna be Hope Solo.

Asked to elaborate on what she meant by cowards, Solo referenced Pia Sundhage, the Swedish coach who formerly coached the United States and won two Olympic gold medals.

"Sweden dropped off, didn't want to open play," Solo said. "They didn't want to pass the ball around. They didn't want to play great soccer, entertaining soccer. It was a combative game, a physical game. Exactly what they wanted and exactly what their game plan was. They dropped into a 50. They didn't try and press, they didn't want to open the game and they tried to counter with long balls. We had that style of play when Pia was our coach.

"I don't think they're going to make it far in the tournament. I think it was very cowardly. But they won. They're moving on, and we're going home."

So basically they played a style the US played when they had the same coach. It wasn't cowardly back then apparently but now it is.

Do you have a link to support that claim, maybe they moved on from a style and coach they didn't care for. Or is your response based on your hatred of the US women?

How else could you interpret it? She's complain about a team playing the same style they used to play. So every team has to go out and play the U.S. at their game? No, the Swedes made it an ugly physical game and the U.S. couldn't adjust...too bad, so sad.

What the fuck are you talking about? Solo said that Sweden played the same style as the US played under Pia Sundhage. At no point have I ever heard Solo complain about the US women's team being cowards when they played this style so why is Sweden cowards now that they play this style? Furthermore, if you bothered to read the link I provided, Julie Foudy who is a US woman's soccer legend calls Solo's comments classless.

So nice strawman suggesting I have some hatred of US women. Hope Solo is a fucking douche and everyone knows it. Quit trying to pick a fight just because I hurt your feelings one time and look at who made the comments and who has called them classless.

Right says the guy that is trying to defend Solo's comments. You and I both know if anyone other than me had made that post, you would not have responded.

Again, what don't you get about her comments being classless? You asked me to support the claim and I did by pointing out the support is already in the link provided. Of course, you know your comments were dumb so now you trying to deflect.

Kind of surreal that the dude from Singapore that beat Phelps in the 100 Fly took a photo with Phelps 8 years ago as a kid back in 2008 at Beijing.

Ledecky is just destroying the field. World Record looks like it will fall.

Let me get this straight, you hate the Olympics because you think its rigged and show no support for your countries athletes that gave most of their lives to compete for us. But, you draw the line because a girl forgot to hold her hand over her heart for the national anthem. Am I correct?

Yep that about sums it up.

This does bring up an interesting point. Is the US the only country that puts their hand over their heart for the anthem? Where I am from, we stand to attention for the anthem and put hands over hearts for the pledge. That's how I've seen it in most other countries that I recall.

That is pretty wild.
Phelps is a machine... It's almost inhuman what he's done.
