When all said and done, AROB’s career will be defined by “what could have been”. Poor kid can’t catch a break no matter where he goes.

Funny thing is people want to sign him long term for 25 a year and cut Mack because he jumps up to 30.

The next few years is about stacking the O side and getting weapons and protection for Fields.

That said, I agree with ya, it's too early to give Arob or anyone on the O side a long term deal. This year we'll find out who Fields favorite targets are and whom he finds chemistry with. Robinson may not even become his go to ...

I don’t mind playing the long game with Robinson. He’s not someone you want to overpay, as good as he is. Let’s see how he looks with Fields and evaluate later. Bears have no reason to rush a deal and pay Robinson upwards of 20 mil per season.

I have to imagine he is way overvaluing himself. The Bears are paying him $18M and have to take that entire cap hit this season. Pace likes nothing more than to kick money down the road. I bet he would love to have signed AR to 3 yrs at about the same yearly salary as the tag(18M)and added a few ghost years to spread the signing bonus out. The Bears will have paid AR nearly 60M in 4 seasons (95%of what he has made in 8 seasons of NFL play), so that "pay the man" shit can be given a rest.

The Bears are hoping Mooney is the real deal so they can get away from paying Arob the boatload of cash he wants. Cuts ties with him at the end of the season and find a number 2 wideout to complement Mooney at a cheaper price.

This is unfortunate but not surprising.

I think my opinion on this situation is well-documented. If Robinson wanted 22/year last year, there's no reason to accept less now. If the Bears didn't want to pay 22/year last year, there's no reason to pay that given the market this offseason.

Chris Godwin and Davante Adams are FAs after the year as well. If they re-sign before the end of the season, that will provide a baseline for Robinson (though he's not good as Adams or young as Godwin). Also, guys like Juju, DJ Chark, and Courtland Sutton are FAs as well. Robinson should get more than them, but they are younger. But all those guys being on the market could also mean that it's saturated and ARob won't necessarily get what he wants.

So, both teams have some leverage here. The market is on the Bears' side right now. Golladay didn't get what Robinson wants, and only 1 team was willing to even offer him a multi-year deal. And the number of FAs also favors the Bears. Robinson is hoping the post Covid market corrects itself and gets him paid what he wants. He'll be monitoring Godwin's situation pretty closely.

He might be waiting for the cap to go up next year, it wouldn't make sense for the bears to be waiting because that will only inflate contracts more. They could sign him now and likely lower his cap hit this year

He doesn’t deserve top 5 WR $ . I’m glad the bears have the common sense not to give it to him, unlike the mistakes they’ve made signing guys like Quinn on D.

If ARob is fixated on getting $20+, good for him and also good luck. We saw how quickly he signed the tag when the bears showed interest in signing Golladay.

I think this is a dumb game of chicken, but he better have a pro bowl year this year otherwise he’s going to be disappointed.

I don’t blame either side for their position, honestly, and that’s why I’m not surprised or disappointed a deal hasn’t materialized. Neither side right now is in a position to rush it and they’re both being patient which is the smart play. If Robinson shows out with Fields, he’s going to get paid big time by the Bears or elsewhere. If he just has a typical very good Robinson type season, the Bears could potentially sign him for their price tag, presumably, 17-20 mil per / 40-50 mil gtd

He should have been traded two years ago for a 1 round draft pick

Signing him now would lower his cap number for this season, and still have him long term after the cap goes up. It would be a win-win for the team.

That’s true but both sides have to agree on a number that makes sense to them. Don’t see that happening right now

The Bears were quite intrigued by Courtland Sutton prior to the 2018 draft. They worked him out privately at SMU. I think if Daniels had not slipped into the 2nd round, they would have grabbed Sutton in that slot. He’s going to be a free agent. He’s younger, faster and bigger than Robinson. AR is a superior route runner. I wouldn’t be surprised if they make a big run at Sutton if he avoids the tag and they don’t do a deal with AR.

He is coming off an ACL but so was Robinson when the Bears signed him. It will be interesting to see how he looks this season.
