I have been seeing more and more robotic lawnmowers out and about.
I guess they are a neat item for certain people that dont enjoy lawn care.

What has really captured my attention with them though is how they spread in popularity.
The first one I ever saw in action several years back was at an old folks home on 47 and 120 in woodstock... they have 2 of them and you can almost always catch a glimpse of them driving by.

From there, they started exploding everywhere nearby.
I just drove 47 from 120 to 14, and there were no less than 12 of them over that short stretch.

It is almost a certainty that if you see one roaming a yard, look around and there will be another within sight.

I dont recall ever seeing an advertisement for one, but once a neighbor gets one, everyone runs out to grab one.
These things would probably explode in popularity if there was a good advertising push for them.

I kept wondering when they'd become a norm like robot vacuums.

More tech debt on the pile.

Why go outside and do some work while enjoying nature? Much better to sit, eat and watch tv. Lazy fucks.

I think it has more to do with the consumer culture we're living.

An Amazon Alexa collecting dust in my closet would attest to the fact we all seem to get tech FOMO in one form or another.

I agree, That is the only way I can explain them showing up in pockets... everyone needs the toy the neighbors have.

I hear ya- I love going out and getting my sweat on.

FTR I want to buy land, build my own home, and work my own land.

Grow hay for my chinchillas.

Grow feed for chickens.

Raise chickens for eggs.

Mow my own grass, cut my own trees, etc.

Sick of living this suburb condo life.

The roomba and the dog poop is bad enough, can you imagine how badly traumatized a kid would be to get home and see a headless bunny being dragged around the lawn like this........

Just need the companion drone that hunts small pest animals or shoos them away from your lawn mower robot.

Don't worry its only 1299.99 and comes with a 2 year limited warranty!

I've only seen one at the community college by me in outside the Horticulture Building, which led me to believe they're just doing an experiment with it.

If I recall correctly, you work a computer based job from home?

A growing number of my computer based support guys that are remote have relocated to less expensive areas and scored some great land at crazy good prices while earning the same.

Hopefully you are lucky enough to be in the same boat... earning Chicago bucks and paying Mississippi prices.

I am surprised that none of the kids have mounted a giant dildo on it.
There would be no way to stop me from doing that if I were a student there.

Yep, IT Consulting.

I am so remote I refuse to turn on my camera for Zoom meetings.

When they complain I say "Only one of us is a bridge troll that writes code in the dark all day."

Cheap land in BFE in several states if your serious. Many have done it. Then they realize the are lving in BFE n want to live in a condo. The few who make it, seem to enjoy it though.

that cheap bs arid land.. no need to cut grass at the start.. probably wont have any. but once you work your land and recondition the soil, plant trees etc.. youll have some in a decade..

Once you grow lots of chickens, kill and throw one into a bucket with small holes in the bottom, let the maggots come to life and drop out and feed da chickens.. its not not robotic, but chicken feed automation... you could get creative and have a robot device kill the chicken though.

Stop that!

You talking to me?

A Maggot dispenser is a real thing.

Also, like youve never thrown some churches chicken/kfc etc to a bird.

PS you can also convert chicken poop into maggots.. just saying
