Park Forest area, no? I feel like Kim Thail was a Rich East guy.
Yep. I went to Beacon Hill Elementary right on the Park Forest/Chicago Heights border.

Kim was in fifth or sixth grade when I was in first grade. It was so strange to meet someone from Park Forest in Seattle and that his mom taught me my multiplication tables.

This sucks. Some of his solo stuff was as good or better than the Soundgarden work.

How about a Billie Jean cover?

His arrangements makes considerably more sense than the original; those lyrics don't belong in an upbeat pop song.

Everyone talking about Soundgarden and Audioslave today. I thought his best stuff was Temple of the Dog. But I'm a contrarian twat so this shouldn't be surprising.

RIP. Way too young.

Listened to that today. Thought about a girl I knew. Damn.

If Johnny Cash covered you, you did something right in life.

That cover will always be one of my favs.

Think about this. The big 4:

Nirvana
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
Pearl Jam

Only one front man left.

If anything happens to Eddie Vedder I'm not sure life will be worth living.

I still have Melvins and Mudhoney, so I'm good.
I also like Tad.
In 1989 that was the Holy Trinity of Seattle Punk, IMO.

(later called "grunge")

Then when the scene exploded three years later...it became Nirvana, Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.

At the time...I thought it would have been Mudhoney that would blow up big the way Nirvana did. Mark Arm is the most underrated frontman of his time.

Never made it to Rich East myself. Moved out of that neighborhood by twelve to stay with my grandmother over by Midway Airport.

I never knew white privilege because I went to a grade school that was predominately black and a high school that was predominately Latino. My lilly white ass was the minority.

Bush have one of the most contrived sounds I've ever heard in a band. Never really had their own place, just kind of existed between the early 90s grunge and the later 90s butt rock garbage (Puddle of Mudd etc). Never felt like that band had an ounce of originality or grit. About as much edge as a pool ball. Safe, bland, unoriginal crap.

tl;dr - not a huge fan.

Bush is not a Seattle band, kind of the Silver Bullet for that equation. Plus I would put Foo Fighters, Pumpkins, RHCP, Green Day, STP, REM, and the Offspring well above Bush. Not to say Bush was some shit band either, just not nearly as big of an impact. Bush is another tier with sexy(subjective/sold as) bad-boy/girl singer like Everclear, Blink, Oasis, Garbage, Silverchair and not in a cult tier like Radiohead, Dave MB, NiN, Flaming Lips, Weezer, etc.

Silverchairs first album was fantastic. They were prodigies. Super young.

Of all those, I'd say Radiohead are a step above creatively and musically.

Of the rest, I like the Foo Fighters, Oasis, Pumpkins, Chili Peppers, Dave and STP. Never was much into Green Day, Offspring, Blink, or most of these 90s wannabe punk-pop bands. Not quite as bad as the emo-punk nonsense that followed (Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy etc) but still pretty garbage. imo.

I grew up on Soundgarden and Temple, but when I listen these days I feel his best vocal work was with Audioslave. You can hear the growth in his tremendous voice. We just saw him and TOTD in November and they played for over 3 hours. I've been to plenty of concerts but no artist I've seen ever played that long. The last hour he played covers of Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, and many more. It was fucking EPIC.

A truly gifted talent. RIP.
