I'll miss Brewer because I just liked him. I think his role is easily replaceable though.

Great defender, limited offensive player, but a genuine nice guy. It sucks when you see players you like go but Butler can replace all Brewer does for a cheaper price.

Once Korver is either traded or released, all that's left of the consolation prizes for losing out on Miami's Big 3 in 2010 Free Agency will be Boozer, but we'll have at least 2 years to wait til his bloated checks are off the books.

Well frankly, losing Boozer does us no good this year. We've already lost out on pretty much any useful free agent for our purposes. I can see him being amnestied after the season though.

And really, now that I think about it, I can see us having to pick from Miami's leftover scraps for the next 5+ years. They got together and set up the core that any player would want to be around. There is virtually no other team in the NBA with anywhere near that level of talent. And now that they've gone and won with barely any help (until Shane Battier came in and shot lights out in the Finals) free agents will be flocking there, specifically all the good ring chasers. And if everyone goes there, there's nothing left for us...and that cycle will continue year after year. We're basically screwed unless we quite frankly start pseudo blowing up the team to try to get another star besides Rose. The Nets made a play for Joe Johnson and Gerald Wallace and nearly got Dwight too. They still have Brook Lopez who's pretty darn good himself even though he's far from Dwight. That's pretty much $65M this year in 4 players. But free agents might possibly go, well Miami doesn't have a need for me, might as well go to the next closest thing in Brooklyn. Same with OKC and LAL and SA. All those teams have MULTIPLE stars who just need some role players to help them out. Bulls have just one, and while he might be better than nearly all the stars on other teams, he's by himself while the others or not. If we want to be the team making announcements like signing Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis we better make a move for our "Joe Johnson" so to speak.

You forgot the most important thing that Miami has that we don't: Pat Riley. There's not a more charismatic or shrewd executive in the NBA than him. When he first met with Ray Allen, he laid all 7 of his championship rings on the table, then proceeded to dazzle Allen with his stories of Championships past. How can the Bulls seriously compete with that when our GM looks & sounds like he should be working @ a 1950's Malt shop?

I don't know how much can be attributed to Pat Riley. I think for Ray Allen, the Miami situation is way better than the Bulls situation. I think if Pat Riley had an injured Derrick Rose and GarPax had LeBron/Wade/Bosh, Allen would have signed with Chicago.

Very true, but sure doesn't hurt to have Riley running your team.

Do people seriously care about the GM of a team? I'd think they'd care more about the team itself...kinda like what Rory said. :dunno:

GMs matter for reputation. Riley has a championship pedigree as a coach and executive.

Gar/Pax? Not so much.

This statement is just all kinds of wrong...so Gar Forman has to look like one of the Goodfellas to get NBA players?

Pat Riley didn't dazzle Allen with rings...he dazzled Allen with Lebron James! That and the chance to get as far from Rondo as possible. Hard to throw rings on the table and dazzle a guy that has a ring already...

No, especially in today's NBA. Its money and market for most players who are superstars or have superstar ambitions...in Allen's case its a ring. I don't think you have to do much of a sell job with Allen when you've just won a title.
