At the risk of being banned, threatening a ban on someone for no real reason like CNM did is pretty dumb.

Yeah, so does Beckham and Viciedo.

you do realize viciedo is 23 right? you do realize that his ceiling is very high and if you :fap: to goldstein he will tell you the same thing. dumb comment. now run along and toss the salad of darwin barney

I never said Barney is great, I just I'll take him over Johnson and a lot would. But there are a lot of players I would over Barney. My point is why player a veteran and an older guy when your team is going no where? That makes no sense and maybe Barney improves his hitting. You never know and it has happen.

You do realize Jackson is 24 and has a high ceiling? I doubt he gets to what he had coming out of the draft, but I bet he'll be a serviceable OF who can start. Especially if he cuts down on the K's. He's a good defender, has speed and takes a lot of pitches. He'll prolly never hit for average, though. Let's see what he does this year with his new swing and approach. If it doesn't work out well, he's prolly a career 4th OF and that would suck because the Cubs supposely have that in Matt Szczur.

I'm not trying to be bias, but I think Jackson and Viceido could have simiiliar careers (as a hutter). The average and K's about the same. Jackson will have more walks and stolen bases while Viciedo will have more hr and rbi's.

I don't think so. Jax doesn't have Tank power and the hit tool is worse than Viciedo's. He's likely to end up as Drew Stubbs this year and is, IMO, a 4th OFer. I have hopes that I'm wrong and he's Curtis Granderson, but I don't see it.

Viciedo has :fap: potential.

I did say the power would be more and that's easily true. I'm not sold on Vicedo yet, but he does have a lot of time to improve - being only 23.

Don't get me wrong, Jackson is no where near to MLB starting if last year was a sign. But he will do better this year for sure. He's been working very hard. However, we don't know if that work has paid off since we have't seen him play with the new change. So, the first couple months will tell us (if he does start the seaosn and the months when he is re-called.)

Here's my bias statement: Viciedo has was more upside that Jackson. No question about it.

I think the caveat that applies to Castro applies to Viciedo, he doesn't have to walk 90 times, but 50 would be great.

Tank's got the right tools to be a really great player, and I have a lot of faith that he'll develop the secondary skills necessary to survive.

Kinda sounds like what the Cubs did with Jackson.

Doesn't bother me in the least, but did they overpay for him since no one else offered him that kind of money? Yeap!

Did he go to a non-contender? Yeap!

Where are all the people who said that it is silly to sign free agents to a team that isn't ready to compete yet? I believe the supposed contract to Sanchez and this one to Jackson qualify as sizeable free agent contracts.

Garza cost the Cubs a prospect(s) and 5.9 million in 2011, 9.5 million in 2012, and this year? Some said the Cubs grossly overpaid for a marginally higher than .500 pitcher with a career 3.84 ERA that was no better than a #2.

Comparing pitchers, I'm sure they feel that paying a marginally better than .500 pitcher with a worse career ERA who is tabbed as a #3 (14 million) a year over 4 years is a great signing though.

Garza was going through arbitration which deliberately keeps his pricetag down. Jackson is a free agent. Jackson also started out younger than Garza which is why he got to free agency faster. They're both about the same age.

I kept that in mind while posting.
Thank you.

Since this is brought up ... Jackson is (9/83) 2 months older than Garza (11/83).

Garza wasn't worth Archer and Lee, plain and simple. Sure both could still fail, but there is a reason they were ranked the 1st and 3rd best prospects in a pretty damn good Rays farm system.

I think Archer is going to be pretty good over the course of his career. He still has the BB issues but he's held onto the improvements as he has moved up in level. I love that arm and it's pretty clear the Cubs lost that deal.

But that was with Jim Hendry and hopefully trades like that have changed. At first I didn't like the trade and I still think the Cubs lost, but I love Garza in Chicago.
