Dude is young and has promise but doesn’t mean jack if can’t stay healthy. In a contract year it’s scary if he stays healthy finally plays well gets a new contract then goes back to his annual ir lol
Annual IR? He played 16 of 16 games the 2 years before this year when he had his first major injury.

The big thing to learn here is contracts beyond this COVID messed cap situation will continue to grow. That will be a factor when extending current players and getting FAs.

Sadly they'll probably be able to re-sign Armstead as well. They added a lot of void years in order to create 15M in space this year, that's going to roll over into next year. Armstead counts over 13M in dead money to be a FA. They can sign him and lower that number for the 2022 cap and push his money into the future.

You just said Daniels was a disappointment, but you want to clear out Whitehair, who by all account is a very good guard?
Didn't say that.

Pointing out an option that other posters might not be aware of...especially if Nagy's system disappoints again and we're looking at a true rebuild.

I have no real understanding of these void years so its useful to see you put in plain terms. Looks like the Saints plan all along was to keep the tandem in tact and any ambitions the Bears had to poach one of their elite tackles probably never stood a chance.

I suspect he's going to have a breakout year. I haven't been too hard on him because of his age.

Not cutting it at center has been a disappointment.

Maybe someone has his PFF run blocking stats? Because the interior unit as a whole doesn't create holes for Monty. He seems to eff up blocking assignments as well.

And he doesn't have much of a choice...he's gotta be the guy this year or he might not get another contract.
I only saw the PFF stat from a tweet. I don't have a subscription.

why would there be a rebuild if nagy gets canned?

coaches would be lining up to get their hands on a talent like Fields

Maybe not.

Good coaches wanna coach in Chicago only slightly more than Detroit.

Cutler was a great prospect. We got Trestman & Martz caliber coaches...lol

We had a chance at Arians. I don't think the issue is coaches not being interested, I think we always choose the wrong guys
Gotta disagree. There's not a culture of winning here. There's always rumors about candidates not wanting to work for the McCaskeys.

It would be big if Daniels could take a step this year and play to his talent. The injury and overall line play last year clouds the picture for him. He's still really young and can do things none of our other guards can do.
He was taking that step and playing to his talent last year before he was injured. It was obvious

Void years and backloaded contracts are only bad if the player isn't any good anymore. Between Armstead, Taysom Hill, Lattimore and Winston, the Saints have 25M in void years for guys that are FAs after 2021. Lattimore in particular has 4 void years at 1.85M each year. He will be tough for them to re-sign, though they could restructure Jordan, Kamara and Thomas. Don't know if they'd want either QB back, though I'm assuming they'd re-sign Hill and keep him in the utility role for cheaper than his 8.5M dead cap hit next year.

Cutler was talented but he already had a questionable rep around the league, especially when he was younger. Not to mention Lovie was the HC when they traded for Jay. After Lovie, Emery hired Trestman over Arians. Arians wanted to come here. Speaks more to the stupidity of Emery than coaches not wanting to coach here.

Also, not sure why you bring up martz, who was the OC not HC. But there was a time when martz was one of the best and brightest offensive minds in the league. And he came to Chicago to be OC under Lovie whereas years prior Lovie was DC under Martz. Speaks a lot about martz’ willingness to come here despite your claim that the bears aren’t a destination.

Cutler threw like 30 picks his first season in chicago… no wonder he couldn’t get a coach to come to chicago.

had cutler been decent in 09 he probably could’ve gotten a better coach

If cutler had been decent lovie probably doesn't get booted and we probably beat GB in the NFCCG and potentially win the super bowl

Martz also had an offensive unit composed of a HOF QB, a HOF LOT, a HOF RB, and a few more "goodies" (WRs) on offense in St. Louis. He couldn't miss with that lineup. So much for "one of the best and brightest offensive minds"!

He knew he couldn't duplicate his St. Louis Rams record in Chicago - and didn't. He. wasted what little talent we did have with his inability to adapt to an "emptier cupboard" and work with what he had.

Pretty sure 2 HOF WR's as well right?
