So, who is going to be riding the pine behind Corey?

Personally, I think Salak shoud be in Rockford. Indifferent on Emery.

Will they surprise us with someone else in the near future?

I'm not sure who is out there , so I think they keep Emery as cheaply as they can. It would be stupid to keep Salak with the Hawks right now.

It's seems to be more beneficial to both the Hawks and Salak that he play in Rockford. That way if he's needed, he's ready. And if he's not, then he gains valuable experience. It's kinda like putting a touted rookie on the 4th line with grinders, you're not really doing him or yourself any favors by hardly playing him when he could be getting a lot more experience elsewhere.

What's Salak's status? If he's called up or sent down, can another team grab him? Salak has played better in preseason, but if another team can grab him if he's sent down, but not called up, I'd start out with Emery.

Capgeek says Salak is exempt. But when reading the CBA not so clear!

He has over 60 games of professional experience when counting the games when he was loaned. According to the CBA games from loan when under SPC is counted as professional games.

I'd guess they are working on a contract for Emery right now. It was pretty clear early in Camp Salak knew he would/could be going to Rockford.

Him sitting in Chicago on the bench for 80% of the 82 game season, does him no good.

As for Saad since I don't see it he must sign a ELC before he can stay for 9 games. IF he stays past the NINE games he is on the Roster the entire year. NO going back past game NINE.

Same with Kane but at that point Havlat got hurt and no way was Kane going back.

If starts bombing, I am sure they would send him back and just have to eat their losses! Otherwise he would just end up being a scratch every game and not playing!

Kane's situation was different because the team was able to afford to keep him because they did not expect to compete for the Cup his first year!

What? He'll get nine games. If they send him back to Jr they eat nothing other than starting Saads NHL clock now. At the time his ELC is set.

Kane was most likely going back to London but was going to get his 9 games. He signed his ECL so he could get the 9 games and Havlat went down. Meaning he was staying.

There situation are very similar. Both had great camps. Both had other players go down before they were sent back, and both could help the Hawks. Now if Stalberg comes back and they send Saad down, that would be different.

It had absolutely not one thing to do with the Hawks winning the Cup or not!

Saad has had a good camp, but I don't see him staying with the team, I also don't see there being a point. Piiri stays if anyone stays. Sharp will be back for the first game. Where does Saad fit? 4th line? he will be getting first line minutes in Saginaw.

Q told the media he would be with the team. They are working on an ECL right now. Now if that's past the first 9 games, who knows. I think it depends on what happens with Stalberg and Smith.

Pirri will probably stay as well until one or both of those guys returns as well.

And Sharp may be back for the first game. He still has not had his stitches removed nor has he taken any contact with the team.

I still think he should be back with Saginaw, though am very confident that he will be gone after 9 games. Yes making the opening roster is good for his confidence, but it will do dick all for development if he is playing on the fourth line. Pirri looks ready to me, far more ready than Kruger. If anyone is going to center the second line, it should be Pirri.

I think he will be when Stalberg returns. He's earned some games. And with Stalberg and Smith out it's a perfect time. I don't think he'll make it past 9 games.

That's where my similarity with Kane came in. He was going to get some games, havlat went down and they needed him where as Havlat was not returning.

Saad looks like he got his 9 games. I'd like to see Pirri stay all season. Hoping Stan is wheelin and dealin this week. Maybe he can trade for a backup goalie and make some room on the roster for Saad/Smith/Pirri.
