While not impressed with Emery at all this pre-season I am okay with him as the back up but Cory better be ready for 70+ games. Cross my fingers Emery can find that game he had with the Ducks last year. (there's still a chance) Just wondering if he did well with the Ducks because he got consecutive games. Not sure if he is someone that can come in cold in games as a backup or starting games after sitting 10+.

A little concerned about it. Just no one else out there.

Salak has to play as we all agree.

Wheres pascal leclaire? has he signed? and can we get him cheap?

did Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers re-sign with the Oilers? He's not great but at least he played a good amount with the Oilers.

Those are the only 2 goalies i know that have played nhl minutes and as far as i know are still unsigned.

Does it really matter for the dozen games that Emery plays if Crawford stays healthy? If the Hawks can't play well enough in front of Emery, let alone any back up, without being in great risk of losing every single one of his starts, they already have serious problems that have little to do with who is in net.

What? He'll get nine games. If they send him back to Jr they eat nothing other than starting Saads NHL clock now. At the time his ELC is set.

Kane was most likely going back to London but was going to get his 9 games. He signed his ECL so he could get the 9 games and Havlat went down. Meaning he was staying.

There situation are very similar. Both had great camps. Both had other players go down before they were sent back, and both could help the Hawks. Now if Stalberg comes back and they send Saad down, that would be different.

It had absolutely not one thing to do with the Hawks winning the Cup or not!

I guess, looking back, that is was a good thing Havlat got hurt. I never wish ill on anyone (Matt Cooke and the Canucks aren't human, they don't count) but Havlat going down got us Kane a year early.

I replied to your post when you stated that if Saad gets past 9 games he will be here for the entire season. My reply was inferring if he bombed after playing 10+ games, I think they would return him and eat their losses, as to meaning a 1 yr hit on his ELC.

I just countering your statement that he would be here the whole season if he plays past the 9 games.

EDIT: Thanks a lot PSR, now I am overly conscience with my punctuations. You have stolen my joy!!!!!!

Past 9 games you can NOT return him. It's not 10 games it's 9. If he plays past those 9 games he's here the entire year. There is no sending him back to the OHL.

Least that was my understanding. And the "what" part was for Kane. It's a very similar situation.

LeClaire defines injury prone....

Drouin-Deslauiers signed with Anaheim over the summer.

Second what RK says.....a kid plays past that 9 game limit, he CAN NOT go back to juniors. Was the issue Pitt had with Staal a number of years ago.

Capgeek says Salak is exempt. But when reading the CBA not so clear!

He has over 60 games of professional experience when counting the games when he was loaned. According to the CBA games from loan when under SPC is counted as professional games.

"He Shoots He scores" covered Salak's status well in the thread that popped up when we announced Emery was getting a tryout.

Salak's "Loaned games" count, so he is not exempt from waivers...HOWEVER...if he starts down and someone gets hurt there is an emergency exemption allowing a player to be called up if a team does not have the min number of players at his position...in goal that number is 2. But we could not just call him up if Emery just stinks without passing waivers.

I was initially geeked about Emery being here, but he really underwhelmed me with shakeyness and bad rebounds in preseason. I think there is a very good chance he could really stink it up.

His footwork wouldn't be so surprising if he hadn't played well with the Ducks- he looks like he didn't do anything this summer.

He can be returned after 9+ games, the 10 game thing has to do with when a year of the NHL entry level contract is used or not.

I want Emery as the backup. Sure he's looked rough (putting it mildly) but he's shown when he gets it going he is a very good goalie. Salak...I think the organization needs to decide what to do with Salak. What is our goalie situation 4-5 years from now? Is Corey still our man or do we ship him out and replace him with Salak. If we decide to keep Corey, Salak is a great trade commodity.

As for Turco. God that really depends on what Corey has left to learn. Turco is a great teacher from what I can gather (prolly end up as a goalie coach somewhere). If Corey still needs teaching then by all means sign Turco. Hell kinda a shame we couldnt sign him for multiple years and eventually send him to Rockford to work with their goalies, that's pipe dreaming by me.

My understanding of the CBA was that Saad can go back to juniors at anytime, but can't be recalled. If he plays more than 9 games, then the year counts against his ELC. I also believe Espo pointed out what I said about Salak and waivers, I'm under the impression that he needs to pass through waivers unless on an emergency call up.

Emery has sucked, plain and simple. I wasn't even upset at the centering pass he through Matt Cooke, it's a bad read those things happen. To me I was more upset at the third goal against Pitt the other night when he couldn't hold his post, pretty simple save if he knows where he is in his crease. That said I think he's the best option simply because Salak will get no value out of watching 60 games from the bench.

You see that written somewhere? Over 9 games I was under the impression he can NOT go back to the OHL.

I say stick with RayRay and put Salak in the AHL for about 20 straight starts, then if (when) Emery continues to suck you just drop him and bring in Salak. You get some more games under his belt and he's not just sitting on the bench all season. At this point I don't have any real faith in Emery, maybe he's pulling a big buff and only showing up when it counts.

My favorite teams
  1. Portland Timbers
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Honestly, both Salak and Emery have underwhelmed me. In this case I think it's pretty much choose your poison.

Also, in regards to Pirri, Pirri>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Kruger. It would be a shame if he's in the A while Kruger is up.
