Me too. I see no reason that if healthy he works a normal load

No doubt about the workload...but im not buyin Sale as a starter just yet.

He's a tall 22 year old skinny lefty with good stuff. But, IMO, he's fast stuff is too straight righnow and over the plate. He needs to fix that. Give me a Danks from 2-3 seasons ago and you can keep a Sale. All I'm saying is that I think it'll be a while before Sale turns into a Randy Johnson type.

Is that 90, 120, 150

Or any year where say you go from 85 to 205?

I'm alone probably but if I were a GM my pitch to everyone in the organization and to all free agents. 9 pitchers 4 starters. 230+ innings each year guaranteed.

Basically the idea is that pitchers that have huge inning jumps over 30-50, depends on age and the research you want to believe, are more likely to suffer injuries and ineffectiveness in the following years.

I think there is a certain charm in your pitch Brett, but I don't think there are enough pitchers who can be effective and healthy pitching for that long. I think there is a certain amount of wisdom in going back to 4 man rotations, but you would have to be very careful in the workloads ptichers got to prevent them from burning out or going down to injury by repeating the very unnatural act of pitching a baseball.

I hear what you are saying but the vast majority of starting pitchers did do this and they pitched for years. It seems the more they pitched the healthier they were

I've heard this argument before and you only have to look at the number of pitchers that were used back then. Since most teams only carried four starters and there were fewer teams that meant there were fewer starters needed back then. Guys who could be effective for shorter amounts of time but couldn't sustain success were weeded out with longer times in the minors than today. Ultimately there are guys out there that can handle it, but the number is fewer than the guys that can handle 150-200 innings.

It's especially important to watch Sale closely as the White Sox have used him exclusively as a reliever during his pro career as far as I could tell. Which means he probably won't get to 200 IP if they don't want his arm to explode.

Good point. But consider we now get players from more than White America we should have more starting pitchers that if trained should be able to thrive in a four man rotation with the same weeding as yester year

I do agree that trtaining has something to do with the difference an injury rate, but 60s and 70s had more players than white America...

Pitching is such an unnatural human activity that I really think that many of us don't appreciate what a few special human beings can do with a baseball.

With his delivery, I worry about injuries and a sustained role for him, but he does have similarities to Randy Johnson(no homer). I like his potential a lot and I hope he pans out, for the sake of this organization.
