Re: Volstad, I wonder if the Cubs have to offer him arb or if they can risk just non-tendering him and hoping he re-signs. Not too comfy with giving him a full arb raise but not willing to give up on this one just yet either.

Pretty sure he's a non-tender candidate. I don't think he'd get much in terms of a raise through arbitration. He might actually get a decrease, but I think the most he can lose in arbitration is 20%. Considering he made $2.66M this year... he'd still be over $2M with an arb decrease, and could possibly get up to $3M with a raise. I also don't think there are many teams that will pursue him if he is non tendered, including the Cubs. If they non tender him and then sign him to league minimum or around there, I'd suppose that would be an OK deal. Of course, if he continues to pitch well through Sept, that could change as well.

It's the start of a 9 game win streak now. For Volstad anyway.

Well The Freak shut us down. Although that's not hard to do, But not trying to take away from a good outing by Lincecum.

Good Lincecum is better than bad Lincecum. Hopefully he's good for the rest of the season and into the postseason :woot:

Well he has been crazy this year that's for sure. We can only wait and see. This was the Cubs afterall, I could probably pitch and get a victory against them. Ha I also heard Brian Wilson is going to return towards the end of the season or at least for the playoffs? Truth?

Not sure, but Brian Wilson was in Marmol mode before he broke so they probably aren't in that much of a hurry to get him back.

Ah, I didn't know that. Maybe he was in Marmol mode because he was almost broken? He was an elite closer until then, and probably the coolest dude in baseball.

The Matt Cain game should be a good one. Hopefully Travis Wood can maintain a quality start anyway.

4-4 with an ERA below 3.5 and a WHIP of 1.28 and just out 1 K/IP since July 14 coming into today.... and he pitched well today.

Didn't Wilson have TJ surgery just in April? I'd be surprised if he's been out of the cast for more than a few weeks, nevertheless begun throwing.

Yeah, I haven't followed it so I don't know what's going on with him. I just seen some Giants fan say something about his return in a chatbox during a game.
