Hello all,

We (mom, stepdad and I [but mainly stepdad]) are getting fed up with Comcast TV fucking us in the ass so we're considering satellite TV and possibly throwing in Center Ice.

There's a Dish Network office down the street and we got some brochures when we had dinner tonight, but they were closed when we came out looking to ask some questions, so I will ask you guys.

1) Is there a big difference between Dish and DirecTV?

2) For Dish Network users: Do you get a lot of HD games on Center Ice?

3) Is it true that the picture craps out in storms?

4) We have a lot of trees in our yard, are we up shit creek?

5) If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?

Thanks for your help!

Huge difference. Dish doesn't have Center Ice. Direct TV does. Last time I checked anyway. Dish carries no sports packages not even baseball. Football of course is exclusive to Direct.

1) Is there a big difference between Dish and DirecTV? I think so yes, I have DTV, my Dad has Dish...i think I have better prgramming and better overall service.

2) For Dish Network users: Do you get a lot of HD games on Center Ice? No Idea

3) Is it true that the picture craps out in storms? I have only lost it here in one very heavy Thunderstorm

4) We have a lot of trees in our yard, are we up shit creek? Shouldnt be....but maybe...look at neighbors to see which direction their dish is pointing.

5) If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me? I would thank you for the compliment, then kick you in the junk if you reached for mine

Hope my answers help.

Directv is better hands down. Very little problems with their service. Losing the satellite signal is a rarity.

Center ice package is one of the seven wonders of the world. Must have.

There is a big difference between the two. And they both have center ice. DirecTV does CI better but Dish is better overall. Dish doesnt do as many games in HD as DirecTV but the hawk ones are typically in HD.

Yes in storms the signal gets lost but light to moderate rain doesnt hurt it

It depends where the trees are

I would not hold it against you

Also Dish doesnt have NFL Sunday Ticket but they have NFL Redzone which shows you all the big plays and there are no commercials and it costs a **** LOAD less.

Also since everyone is saying DirecTV is awesome. It aint it sucks. It would take me forever to type out the litany of problems I've had with them.

Also their remotes have terrible delay between hitting the button and the box doing anything. And if you are a DVRer Dish has the best DVR around per CNET.

The only thing DirecTV does better is CI

I have Dish Network. I will answer the questions as best I can.

Not sure about the difference between Dish Network and Direct TV. I don't have a problem with Dish.

If I recall correctly, if there was an HD feed for a game, it would be broadcast as such. Both in SD and HD.

It sometimes during a nasty storm it will crap out. However, my neighbor who has cable, his feed goes out more often then mine. Even on clear days.

I can't answer that. The installer would have to let you know. I gotta imagine you have at least some clear view of the southern sky.

Hey, I could use a little cuddling like the next dude.

I have had Dish for about 15 years and also cable, got rid of cable about 5 years ago. I also have Direct TV at work.

I like Dish much better and never had problems with CI. As was said earlier the DVR that dish has is very good, I like it much more than Direct TV .

You will need a clear view to the south west, I had mine put on top of my garage.

As for the last, if you get the hug from JACKO, watch out for the reach around.

As a side note ......RK HAS DISH......need I say more?

I have dish as well and have had direct in the past and would never change back. Unfortunately It's a heated debate that leads to a lot of misinformation such as pretty much everything supra said above. Only way to find out is make the leap. Dish is generally cheaper especially the deal they have right now. And they have more packages at different price levels to match what channels you "have" to have. Do your due diligence because both will make you sign a two yeah to get the best deal.

Hey screw you
<
. Those are the problems I had and I did say they did CI better.

Honestly, I liked DirecTV until I ran into some pretty bad customer service problems. I could have lived with my remotes taking forever to do anything (they said they've fixed that recently). DirecTV manages their HD better than Dish in terms that the standard and HD channels for DirecTV are the same channels there is no seperation whereas Dish they have the same channel number but are separate and it lists a lot of double entries in the guide.

Also that upfront payment you make on the DirecTV boxes you dont get back and you dont get to keep the boxes.

I assume your first mention of Direct was supposed to be Dish? And yes, the remote are fine for the most part, what little problem I had isn't a big deal, just a slight delay sometimes. As for the overlap problem? I'm not sure what you mean? You can use the HD only guide which only shows HD channels. Or you can set your own guide up for only HD channels and the non-hd channels you want. I don't really have a problem with that because I have a large package and pretty much every channel is in HD so I just use the HD only guide. And my HD is free. And all start up costs if you talk to them before hand can be waived. I've had activation fees and upgrade fees waived. And no fees for equipment except for $5 past the first box, which I don't have cause I have the two tuner DVR which is the best around hands down. Better than tivo, comcast, direct. It's so easy to use and error free. And now that I can control everything through my computer and phone, and even slingbox to my phone, it's even better (not saying others can't do this but it's all included)

I envy the choices you guys have for "cable" television. The condo I'm moving into makes it pretty cumbersome to get a dish (which I would prefer - although as far as the debate goes, I've been to houses with both DirecTv and Dish and have not noticed any major differences) and U-Verse isn't available in this area.. so I may be stuck with Comcast for the time being.

Anyone know if you HAVE to get the HD feed these days to get a DVR? I didn't see it listed as an option on Comcast's website.

Yeah I had to do the custom Guide. Just a bit of a pain in the ass.
